Guest KonstaT Posted September 8, 2015 Report Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Do a nandroid backup in TWRP. Restore stock recovery, install stock ROM and OTAs you want to install. Root and install TWRP again. Do advanced restore in TWRP to /data partition only (it's important that you don't restore any other partitions). Is it possible to restore data for costum rom without any trouble? Thanks

If it's something based on the stock ROM (modified stock ROM), then maybe. Something new and unique (e.g. CyanogenMod), not a chance.There's of course apps like Titanium Backup but you can't use them to backup/restore any data for system apps (i.e. contacts, SMS messages, system settings, etc) between different ROMs - only your user apps and their data. IMO there's very little need for this in these days anyway. Contacts should be synced from your Google account and even apps you've installed from the Play Store are automatically reinstalled. Some launchers, like Nova Laucher, can create their own backups to your sdcard that you can restore to get your homescreen/widgets/etc configuration back. Sure it takes some time configure your apps again but it might be worth to take that time to avoid any issues caused by 'bad' data you've brought from your previous installation.This was a special case. Normally (on unrooted stock) when you install the OTA updates, none of your data is wiped. We did exactly that, just on a little different way. ;) Edited September 8, 2015 by KonstaT
