Guest decpvr Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 The consensus appears to be that a full factory reset is the way to go, to clear up any issues with the new Lollipop update. My question is: does it make any difference if you reset the device before the update, or after? Also I've seen mentions of clearing the cache to help with any Lollipop update issues. Can anyone please remind me how this is done?Would it be worth making a sticky thread which gives a brief overview of the recommended process for updating to Lollipop? This may help any users who are having issues with the latest (Sept 2015) update, but have not yet seen the advice on a reset. For example:1, Backup your settings and apps through Google (if you so wish). Backup any media to a SD card or external device (PC etc). 2, Update your device. 3, Factory reset device. 4, Clear cache (and if so, how?)5, Install/update any apps6, Enjoy! Thanks. Let me know if there's any other advice when updating to clear issues and prevent any problems associated with this update procedure.
Guest decpvr Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Oh and one other point to add: - remove any root on your device before updating! Lots of users also seem to be having an issue with this. Either that or recommend holding off updating if you require root, as it appears to be currently not possible to root Hudl 2 running Lollipop.
Guest Captain Cookster Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 In my experience factory reset before hand saves Lollipop trying to optimise all your existing apps all at once.... It can weed out any apps which may cause an issue with compatibility too.
Guest decpvr Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Great. Hopefully that will be helpful to anyone out there yet to update their Hudl2.
Guest Captain Cookster Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 it can stem some of the overheating/battery drain side effects associated with this major update. optimising to ART runtime happens in the background and a lot of people interpret this as something catastrophic happening to their device.. It's not of course. But if you are like me and had oodles of apps already installed on Kitkat, this just adds to the task after update. Can take an age to finish.
Guest decpvr Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Ok. How about clearing the cache? What is the process to do that and does it make any improvement?

Guest popoyaya Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 I was rooted before the Lollipop update (tethered recovery method) and all went fine. Lost root of course.
Guest decpvr Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 Maybe I was thinking of those who had rooted and deleted Tesco apps.
Guest Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 Maybe I was thinking of those who had rooted and deleted Tesco apps.Yes, anyone who had rooted and changed / deleted system files would have probably suffered OTA integrity check issues when trying to install updates - how they dealt with that situation determined how much pain they endured to be able to successfully install the update to Lollipop - removing root isn't necessary.

I am stuck in a loop of the tablet starting after being reset, searching for wifi, and then once I have entered the details it finds an update which fails to install. I have tried going to the settings using the Google Keyboard trick but don't know what the next step is to get a fully unrooted device running Lollipop and capable of OTA updates. ..... the next step would have been / is to selectively manually install previous OTA's until you reach a point where a full reset results in the automatic 'Searching for udates' at the end of the setup process working .....
