Headset problems

My phone is insisting it is still in Headset profile even when the headset is not plugged in. Consequently, there is no sound coming out from the speaker. Essentially, I can only make and receive calls when the headset is plugged in.

When I plug the headset in, the backlight comes on. When I take the headset out again, the backlight comes on again - so it appears to know that the headset is being plugged in and removed again.

I've rebooted the phone - no change.

I cant change the profile to Normal (it reckons the headset is plugged in,

so wont let be change the profile at all)

I guess the phone is shafted. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I take it back today?

Load of people have had the problem. Possible solutions are:

1) blowing in the head phone sockets

2) trying a hard reset

If the blowing trick doesn't work then it's usually a hardware fault and will re-occur. You should get your phone replaced.

one thing i have learned: change the layout of the homescreen (e.g. simple layout) since this is resetting the profile too.

cheers and if it works you owe me a beer!

Cheers,

No joy.

Tried both blowing the headset socket and changing the home screen. It still sthinks the headset is plugged in.

Spoken to Orange - back it goes to the shop on Monday for a replacment.

Thanks anyway

It's no good, I blow and it's fine for a few hours... next thing I know the profiles switched back to head-set again. It's a real pain cause I don't notice until i take an incomming call and can't hear or speak to the caller!

The jack is perfectly clean, as is the socket, I've tried manualy changing profiles and tried switching back to an Orange Home page, I've even tried a hard reset Nothing works.

Funily enough, if i stick something metalic in the head-set socket (don't try this at home kids), the profile will switch back to Normal, until I pull the metalic object back out.

Anyway, the phone is being replaced tomorrow so hopefully that will be an end to it. Funnily enough Orange are always really good when it comes to replacing faulty hardware, but the guy I spoke to was far from happy to do it.... strange?

Anyway, fingers crossed that I will not get a reconditioned handset, that I have backed up everything I'll need (I'm sure to have forgotten something), that I can figure out how to undo the de-cert (searching now, I'm sure you just hard -reset?) and that I will be able to de-cert the new hand-set.

....stick with em kids, they can only get better!

Had this problem as well (nearly got mad about it) but blowing the hole made it for me as well (you really have to blow it very strongly to get it to work)...

Any idea if there is a way to make the SPV ignore the status recieved fromt he headset socket. Im far from home and there is no way I can swap the phone out.... Does anyone know what is used to detect the plug in the socket?
