Guest spencey7 Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 Hi folks,Owing to an oversight on my part, I accidentally let my Hudl 2 battery run flat this past weekend. I have since charged it for over 24 hours - there is no life whatsoever, not even the red charging light. I've tried multiple chargers, all of which charge other Android devices with no problems, to no avail. I've also tried charging via USB connection to my laptop. Still no red charging light. No change when I hold down the Power button. No change when I hold down the Power button and (every) combination of the Volume +/- buttons. There is of course - bizarrely - no "hard reset" button (to press with a paperclip/pin) on the Hudl 2. For all intents and purposes, the tablet is completely dead.Tesco's online help have been entirely useless. Does anyone have any advice/tips? Is it just a matter of chasing up the warranty for a new device? If so, has anyone gone through that procedure before..?Thanks in advance!
Guest CPN200 Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 This is going to sound strange but how long did you leave it before deciding that the red light wasn't going to come on?
Guest clive.hills Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 The reset button is on the front left hand side of the top panel.
Guest spencey7 Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 Thanks for your replies folks! @CPN200 - I've left it overnight, on two occasions. In fact it's still plugged in now! It's been "charging" more often than not since I realised the battery had died.@clive.hills - I'm afraid there's no such button on the Hudl 2 - the only "pinhole"-looking part is the microphone.
Guest clive.hills Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 Sorry, yes you are correct of course.
Guest Captain Cookster Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) There may be a way to sort your problem out but involves opening it up and unplugging the battery and reconnecting it. If it is still under warranty dont mess with it and just send it back mate.Good luck! Edited October 20, 2015 by Captain Cookster
Guest FMUK Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 The reset button is on the front left hand side of the top panel. That's a microphone isn't it?!There was a pin hole reset on Hudl, but on the 2 you have to press and hold power for 15-20 secs.
Guest fnobgpo Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 I to have this problem, my hudl2 had been reluctant to charge for several months the charge cable had to be positioned just so and left undisturbed to get it to charge. I left it switched on over night and it refused to charge at all. making the assumption that the mirco usb had finally worn out I located a new one on line and fitted it to no avail. I then took a multi meter to the battery terminals nothing at all, in case it was lacquer over the pins on the board I disconnected the cable and tried again directly on the plug tags still nothing. Knowing enough about Lithium batteries to be dangerous I concluded that the protection/ balance strip had cut in due to over discharge. I searched the internet for the battery specs using the part numbers on the cells then disassembled the pack far enough to access the actual cell terminals, the multi meter confirmed both cell were in a discharged state but not over discharged then using a hobby charger designed for charging lithium batteries with out protection for RC aircraft use I charged each cell independently and tried again, still nothing on the connector strip. I can only conclude that once it has cut in the battery protection circuit stay cut in. I am reluctant to shell out £15 for another battery if it turns out the main board is shot.. There are 4black 4 red a green and a yellow wire in the plug does anyone know which pair put power into the board so I can power it up if possible with a 18650 cell to recover the data
Guest CADmaster Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Hi fnobgpo I am sorry I cannot help you with your problem. But in your post you mention “£15 for another battery” Does this mean that there are replacement batteries available for the Hudle 2. If so where from? Many Thanks for any help and advice.
Guest fnobgpo Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 When I was looking for the usb board I came across a few replacement batteries, how ever the only ones I've found on re looking are on ebay and are salvaged not new. Fitting new cells to the existing connector/protector strip is not impossible.Cut the old tags with out damaging the cell containment, grind the remains of the tags off the connector strip contacts, spot weld new cells in place. Simple in theory but you really need to know what you are doing or you will fry the protection circuit as mine is anyway
