LG Spirit 4G H440n

I bought a LG Spirit Titanium from Virgin, Android is Lollipop 5.0.1. Software is Version 10e.

 It is a step up from my old ZTE Blade V.  

However one problem is that I can't access the External SD Card at all. I have read it needs to be rooted but Kingoroot did not work.

I am beginning to run out of memory after a week installing that apps I had on the Blade, where I used Link2SD to store them on a hidden partition on the SD. Again I would need it rooted.

Has anyone rooted one  successfully.

I am aware of Kingroot.apk but a little wary as it apparently sends information on the phone to China.

Used Kingroot and had all sorts of problems when I tried to remove the Kingroot program but did a hard reset and the phone thankfully returned to useable but still rooted. Used FX File Explorer to make SD card accessible to third party programs. Have installed Link2sd which frees up the internal SD card for data.
