Guest kernowmagic Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 This is a new sms alert. Try it out and let me know what you think.
Guest kernowmagic Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 sorry had problems adding the.ace
Guest darrellt Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Sorry to ask what may appear to be a stupid question, but I've dropped this file into "My Sounds" folder where some ring tones already reside and it doesn't show up in "Sounds" in Settings. How do I get to it to hear it? Thanks in advance for your help.
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 It should be in /IPSM/Application Data/Sounds. Create the directory if it doesn't exist.
Guest darrellt Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Okay, thanks for the quick reply. Found the aforementioned folder, dropped in "sms.ace". Still can't find it via "Settings" and "Sounds". Sorry once again if I'm missing the obvious. None of the other sound files in there have the ".ace" ending...

I think that .ace should've been a zip to save on the newbie questions. darrelt: Download http://www.firaas.co.uk/sms.zip and open it with WinZip or an equivalent.
Guest darrellt Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Okay, tried your direct link but get page not found. Tried changing the .ace to .zip but then when using Winzip to open it I get an invalid archive error.
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Woops, try now - forgot to copy it over. Another option is to install WinRAR - which is a meg or so I think.
Guest darrellt Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Firaas you're a STAR!!! Thanks for your patience with me over this one. I've already got WinRAR but it's obviously not associated with a *.ace file extension I'm guessing, as the icon didn't change. Nice SMS alert. On that note (excuse the pun!) the general quality of ringtones seems to be improving; the drumroll, bubbles, dog and creepy ones from Orange Update are pretty good compared to the more than dire default ones which are worse than the standard Nokia ones.
Guest darrellt Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Ooops!!! Thanks should also go to Kernowmagic for the creation of the new SMS tone! Thank you!
Guest kernowmagic Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Sorry i should of explaned how to install the sms tone
Guest rashah Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Perhaps someone can upload this in Winzip standard so that we can all see how good it is...! thanks
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I don't see wh he didn't just upload the vanilla .wav in the first place, its only 450k :) Download here
Guest kernowmagic Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I have attached a zip file as well for those of you that dont know about winace
Guest Simon Desser Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I must admit it made me laugh. Just a minor thing though, when I looked at the wav file in an editor, I saw that it was in STEREO!, which is pointless as a tone on the SPV, and it makes the file size twice as big. I've converted it to MONO, which doesn't affect the quality at all, but halves the file size.sms mono.zip
