Guest Cryptochrome Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 Hello, a few months ago I noticed some dust/air bubbles(?) around the edges of my screen. It got pretty bad and now the screen doesn't recognise touches which are on the dust areas (for example I can't type the letter "P" unless I press very hard.) Today I took it to my local Vodafone store with the receipt but they said they couldn't do anything because I was using a talkmobile sim card (which seems utterly stupid). So yeah, I can't really do anything about it but any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Guest ohyesman Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 Buy a cheep pay as u go Vodaphone sim and go back with the phone... Won't be able to use that excuse then.
Guest Frostyjim Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 Or go in with no sim in the phone. As you say the sim is completely irrelevant.

Guest grizzlyflea Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 Getting a cheap payg sim is the best option then

I guess I could try putting that sim in (I don't even know where it is) and CALLING Vodafone instead of going into the store, but surely they can see how long I've been using the sim. It would be a bit suspicious if I was using that sim for 1 day when my phone's 6 months old...
Guest macbreakweeklyfan Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) The consumer rights act, which came into force in October 2015 (and replaced the sale of goods act) says YOU DO have the right to a replacement or refund. This is an open and shut case, I have dealt with corporations for many years, returning faulty items, having discussions over semantics of irrelevancies they attempt to bombard you with when you KNOW they are doing the wrong thing. Persist, persist, persist, YOU MUST NOT BACK DOWN - be calm, slow paced and thoroughly consistent, open and honest, and you WILL get satisfaction. Stay cool and calm, polite and smiling at all times, you WILL get this sorted, there is absolutely no doubt about that fact whatsoever. You have rights - they are trying to wriggle out of your return/refund, or maybe it's just an untrained member of staff or a lack of their understanding of proper procedure. Do not lose heart, this WILL be sorted my friend :) Edited May 9, 2016 by macbreakweeklyfan

Do you think I should go back into that same store then? Yes. Sit down with them and calmly state that you won't be moving until they've given you a satisfactory resolution, as it sounds like you're at an impasse with them, right now. You have inalienable rights which they CANNOT take from you, no matter how they spin their clever spiel. I have a VERY business-minded, polite but assertive neighbour who was here the other evening with us. She was laughing and musing over all the business dealings she's had, and how companies attempt to brush us off like idiots. She was noting how effective it is to raise one's voice in a polite but VERY AUDIBLE manner, in a shop full of (potential) customers - you may like to try that, if all else fails. Get your facts absolutely in line, stick to your (truthful, as I wouldn't doubt!) hard line and keep re-iterating it, getting louder each time (clearly I am not advocating you should be shouting, hehe!). All the best for your encounters, may they swap or refund you swiftly...PS: For the thread - I now have purchased THREE Smart Ultra 6 handsets over this year, and for two of those I decided to go to Argos, who have a MUCH simpler and more amicable returns policy (IE: no question at all, refund or replace - they took one of mine back 2 weeks ago, NO FUSS!) - additionally, their price is LESS than the actual Vodafone shop, oddly:http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4449131.htm £99.99 (plus their mandatory top-up requirement of £10) as I type this! Guest spender Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 I have just noticed the same thing with my smart ultra 6, looked like dust around the edges of the screen and could be seen quite clearly in bright light with the screen turned off. I bought it from Argos and they gave me a refund as it was just in warrenty, I would have liked a replacement but they had none in stock. A freind who has the same phone called round yesterday and I looked at his screen and t was even worse than mine, he is on a two year contract with vodafone that includes the ultra 6, I hope he gets it sorted quickly but seems to be a bit of an issue with this handset. I have bought a cheap Blu life mark from amazon until i decide what to replace my ultra 6 with.
Guest ohyesman Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Vodafone are a bunch of *****. My Mrs had the screen becoming delaminated issue which made the left of the screen unresponsive and the back button having phantom presses. Despite Vodafone website stating that all phones apart from iPhone have a 24 mth warranty they didn't want to know in store (online help did and confirmed) Buy luckily I remembered that she had an issue with he order with Vodafone and ended up getting phone from Amazon... And Amazon as always has great customer service and gave a immediate refund on return of phone. Had 1 day left on a year from date of purchase lol £135 refund Inc p&p and this is going towards 2 x new oneplus 3's Good phone for the price, especially for £99 but looking forward to better built phone.

They took the phone with no complaints but instead of getting a refund or replacement they repaired it. I would have preffered a replacement to ensure the same issue doesn't happen again, but since it's been repaired I've had no problem. I believe the patterns are caused by deteriorating glue which was present in some faulty batches after the phone was first released. The repair took 10 days, which was not good as I did not have another phone to use until then, but the repair was perfect and free, so I had no complaints. Anyway, I don't think I'll be getting another Vodafone after this, unless the Smart Ultra 8 (?) in a year's time really is amazing.
Guest spender Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 I have heard Vodafone are really difficult to deal with, Im glad I bought mine from Argos however the first store I took my phone too could not see a problem with it and insisted on calling Vodafone who kept them waiting in a qeue for about 40mins. In the end I gave up and took it to a different branch who refunded on the spot, i think I will buy a Moto G4 to replace it as one of the main dissapointments with the smart ultra 6 was the lack of updates.
