Guest smiffyma Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 Hi - I have the Y5 (y560-L01) on 5.1.1 Thanks to info by KonstaT I rooted it using steps 1-9 (not 10) of his post http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/376807-recovery-twrp-302-0-for-huawei-y5/ That is I executed up to step 9 “fastboot boot recovery.img” then then flashed supersu and didn’t perform step 10 “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” … so I have rooted and kept the original recovery and stock image. Anyway – the problem I have is when using titanium backup (or ES file explorer) to access the external SD-CARD the general advice is to use the document picker to select the root of the sdcard…. All the info on the web says to select the “3 dots” menu option on the document picker to “show sd card”…. Strangely, I do not have any such option. In fact I cannot select any document anywhere with the document picker …. Its just blank (unlike the example shown in the picture)? Regardless of the document picker seeming to be broken ES file explorer at least seems to be able to update the sdcard once I cancel out of the document picker Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the stock? Any advice? Thanks for your help
Guest KonstaT Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 "3 dots" menu is the same thing as pressing the MENU hardware button. Depending on the app it's not available on devices that have hardware keys. It's very possible that there's something wrong with the stock ROM, too. Never really used it so I can't tell...
Guest smiffyma Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 thanks for your reply... unfortunately there is no "3 dots" menu and nothing happens when pressing the MENU hardware button. Yes ... I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the stock rom .... the 2 apps I added (es file explorer, and titanium back) have this problem with the document picker (having no menu, and nothing to select)... Even with this restriction, the apps are still workable, just a bit restricted ... ( ES file explorer at least seems to be able to update the sdcard once I cancel out of the document picker ... and with TB I got working by creata folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ ) I was wondering whether to try the SD card fix app.... ? I was also thinking of moving to you build of CM12 ... but was put off as you mark it for advanced users and I'm not sure if you will be updating it or if I wouldn't be better on stock. thanks for your help

Does that mean you're also expecting Huawei to provide updates for the stock firmware? ;) Wouldn't get my hopes up. I don't know if/when I'll update the CM12.1. CM12.1 branch has been quite dead for months because CM13 gets all the attention. That's how it always goes with older Android versions - development just fades away. It's just translations and security updates that get merged these days. If there's something worth updating, I might make a new build. No one has reported any new issues so it should be stable for daily use. That's just my usual disclaimer. Some people don't even bother to read that far. :P You should be fine if you read the first few posts of the tread and can follow simple installation instructions. Being 'advanced user' also includes that you know what creating/restoring a nandroid backup does. Once you understand that, you know there's no harm in trying ROMs - you can just go back to stock ROM if you please.
