Guest fraser Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 For mp3, the best has got to be CDex. Do a search on Google, it's the first link there. It's totally free. For movies, try "Windows Media Encoder". (again, you'll find it on Google). You'll find guides on this board on how to encode the video as stickies (near the top) of each forum. You should check these first before posting, this question is already answered. If you try out the DivX player instead of the in-build Windows Media Player, apparently VirtuaDub is the way to go, but I've not tried that yet.

Guest woof Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Ok sweet, last little question, refering to CDex encoding software, you can choose options of what encoder you use, suce as Lame MP3 Encoder, Windows MP3 Codac, Blade MP3 Codac internal MP2 Encoder...etc. Is there a suitable choice for the SPV
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Lame is usually the codec of choice for mp3's i believe. .wma is native to WMP on the SPV though so it (sometimes) can produce better results. Search for Windows Media codec 7, 8 or 9 for more information.
Guest Emad Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 .WMA at 64kbps will give you about the same as 128kbps mp3 - well, with those headphones anyway :) They also playback the smoothest. DivX gives far superior quality and speed to the windows media player - rummage around in the software section for info on that..
Guest u03ekw Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 has anyone tried windows media encoder on movies from pocketmovies.net? i cant seem to get it to work! i have tried both ver 9 and 7 (i think) and windows always says that the file is corrupt or something. i'm guessing that it must be my windows. :?
Guest Richie M Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 u03ekw - i would imagine that the movies you got are Divx therefore WM Encoder wont read 'em (nor will WM Player either) as MS still regard Divx as naughty (Divx is hacked MPEG-4)

If you use WME (windows media encoder) you have to convert them one by one, it takes a lot of time when converting a full album... Thanx in andvace.

Guest idavid Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 hello all. hows about converting bit rates in windows media player. have been recording stuff at 128 for months, now i want to shrink them down to 64, to fit on my SD. do i need to use something else? ps. great site paul. pps. as for the running debate, the tanager is coming out on 5 may, because i am upgrading to an spv on the 4th (law of sod (you can thank me later)).

Guest MECX Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 use windows media player 9 (only works if you have unlocked your phone over the air) it will put songs straight from CD on to your phone--best encoding 64kbs WMA. (just plug your phone in with active sync on and click the copy to device Tab on the right) ;)
Guest idavid Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 right so i tried windows media converter, and happily converted all my tracks down from 128 wma.s to 64 wma.s. only problem is they sound awful! to check i tried copying from original CD again at 64 and it sounds fab! has anyone else noticed this? :?
