2 Questions about backup, cards & a Hi btw ;)

Hi,

I just bought the SPV this tuesday and is starting to learn more about it - so I stumbled across this fine site 8)

Q1: I have now read a few threads where someone states that to do a full backup you need a 64 MB SD card. Isn't it possible to just transfer your files to your PC instead?

Q2: Is MMC better than SD cards? or is it the other way around?

Thanks and I'm sorry if this has been asked already..

1 your home pc wont recognize spv files so no it is not possible

2 sd card is possibly better ,but not much in it

SD is getting cheaper than MMC too.

You'll only notice the difference between SD and MMC if you use an external reader/writer or have an interest in the SD's lock function.

http://www.valueflash.co.uk has some cheap cards.

Thanks guys, that was fast :)

But can't I just copy all the folders from the SPV to a local drive? Or are there files that WinXP won't see..?

not only will windows not let you save files from spv,it wont even let you look at them.I even bought a card reader to try if that would recognize.no way.your best bet if you want to back up everything is to buy the cheapest 64 mb card and back everything that way.you can try and just backup ipsm on 8 mb card but most people are having difficulty doing this

hope this helps

For the record, the important files are protected by the "System" attribute. This attribute protects files from being read/changed in anyway by any user accessible interfaces.

What we don't know yet is if "System" files can be read/changed using priveliged signed applications.

Also, the SPV seems to quite often have trouble with MMCs.
