Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Hi, Is the MMS setting the same as WAP settings, if not where do I insert the new WAP settings from O2. The only setting options I can find is the MMS setting???
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Which WAP settings? If you mean the phone no. etc for dialup WAP, go to: Programs > Settings > Data Connections. Menu > Edit Connections. Dialup Connections > Orange CSD WAP. If you wish to use dialup WAP, you must also select Orange CSD WAP under "WAP connection:" in Programs > Settings > Data Connections. Otherwise, ignore the above instructions and post back...
Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Well what Ime trying to do (and Ive done a search!!!) is make my O2 WAP work on the SPV, and I dont really know what settings to change, I have all the O2 Wap info for GSM (as i dont think my old sim card supports GPRS), as below, GSM Settings Dial number Data Mode ISDN Default url Port Security Off IP Address Linger time Username Password
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Yep - if you use my intructions above, just stick in all the information you can on that form, and it should be enough.
Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Thanks Firaas, will give it a go now, Are you on O2?? Just wondering if the old O2 sims accepts GPRS (the Genie Sims) or weather you have to up date to a New O2 Taffif, cause I was told they dont accept MMS, I would need to upgrade for that :) and loose loads of free texts
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 I don't think they have GPRS on PAYG yet? Also, you'd have to pay a fortune for GPRS, while you get 300 minutes of WAP free anyway (although you can't surf the normal internet via WAP).
Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Its a contract sim, I get unlimited WAP, and thought with it being a contract it might allow GPRS, but maybe not :)
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Ah I see. Take a look at http://www.o2.co.uk/business/productsservi.../0,,135,00.html * Available on all O2 calling plans open to new connections apart from O2 Leisure Time, O2 Leisure Time Plus, O2 30 and O2 50. New connections to Group Worker Plus, Business First Plus and Mobile Extension will also include 100KB free usage, as launched But it may not include Online tariffs?
Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Right so you just add these to to your tarriff already, I didnt realise how dear it is, I can imagin it soon mounts up, or is MB quite a lot for a Mobile Internet??? Do you have any link to a list of the mobile site, cause you can only access one which are designed for wap through wap cant you, like mobile.msn
Guest Firaas Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Yeah, I can't offer you a definitive wap site list, but if you go to the O2 wap homepage, you should find a load there. I also believe google has a wap search engine, from which you can search for other wap sites. Basically, when buying the SPV, you pay £6 for 10mb, whilst you're paying O2 £20 for the same amount. A mb will be used up quite quickly if you're into the SPV, so unless you have the SPV pack, you might want to avoid taking a seperate GPRS subscription.
Guest woof Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Cheers for the advice and help mate, thanks Rusty
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 woof, did you get it to work? i'm trying to do exactly the same as you. but i'm stuck on where to put the ip address etc. my phone just keeps trying to dial through gprs each time. any idea what i'm doing wrong?
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 You only need to input what the pages ask for - the IP address should be obtained automatically by DHCP...
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 so when editing csd wap to o2 settings, do i selectconnects to...wap network, or secure wap network?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Only if O2 has a secure WAP network.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 ok i've changed my csd settings to o2, selected data connections/wap connection-csd wap...gone to internet explorer and everything i click on tries to connect through gprs?????
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Er. Go to internet explorer. Menu > Go to. Enter "wsp://www.bbc.co.uk".
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 ok thanks for your time you're being really helpful. got it to dial wap now but getting error login message. worked out that whenever i change my password on csd it automatically changes back to my orange password as soon as i leave the page. helpppppppppppp
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Don't worry about it! I think you might have to create a new CSD dialup for it to work. Go to Menu > Add on Dial-up connections and enter all your details.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 just tried it, its still happening even in the new dial up, just reverts straight back to my orange password
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Ring Orange Fax&Data on 156 from your phone - they should be able to help you as it's reg'ding their phone. Might be another bug?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 damn annoying i know that much
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 doubt orange are gonna help me to get onto o2 wap though
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 They have to. They're the manufacturer, there's nothing suggesting you can't use another WAP provider. If they don't help you, ask them for details of their repair centre, and report a fault with the phone (ask for one to be sent to Tech Support).
Guest terminater2_uk Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 just phoned 156 and have been told that changing the password is not an option and cant be done so it looks like i'm stuck with no wap. what would happen if the phone was unlocked i wonder?
