Headphones

I am finding myself using the mp3 player on the phone more than my actual mp3 player. The only problem is that the headphones with the phone suck. My local unfriendly and generally crappy Maplins told me that getting an adapter for the phone socket would be difficult which I do not believe. So does anyone know where I can get an adapter so I can use my fantastic headphones with the phone? It would also mean I can plug the phone into random audio equipment too :)

Im not bothered about the microphone side of things as I am rarely in a suitation where both hands are busy!

Thanks in advance.

The Maplin's 2.5-3.5mm adapters work fine.

My longest-running complaint about the SPV, it's shite headphones. My temporary solution to the problem is some foamy earpad-thingies around the earpieces - helps 'em fit one's ears far better.

The Nokia HDD-1 headphones (as supplied with the 5210) are rumoured to work with the SPV, too - there's a questionmark where impedance is concerned tho', and the stingy git in our local Nokia ConceptStore wouldn't let me try them out. They can be had for about 200 DKK (£18-odd, I suppose). They are proper headphones too, not like the elephant-ear sized SPV-jobs

Edit: The N-HDD-1's also have a 2.5mm Ø, 4-pole micro-jack like the SPV

I had a quick look on the website and it does appear to be the case. Maybe using a different assistant from the last one would help.

Cheers.

Be careful with the 2.5-3.5mm adaptor - i'm sure it was responsible for trashing my first SPV :)

My latest solution was to solder the earpieces from some decent Sony headphones to the SPV headset, and that works fine, just a pity I managed to solder the right earpiece to the left output of the headset

That nokia headset looks as though it should work ok, but has anyone tested to see if it will stay in your ears comfortably?

The phones themselves look far better - the SPV's sort of stick out at an angle from the lughole (i.e. they don't rest against the lower ear - take a look in a mirror when you're wearing them), whereas these Nokias look to be *very* similar to the ones that came with my daughter's Panasonic portable CD player; the cable drops directly down from the ear, whereas the angle of the SPV-phones means that the slightest head movement means the cable pulls them out of the ear. As I said before, some foamy stuff did wonders but it's still not perfect...

I've just tested my missis Nokia HDD-1 headphones.

Up's:

Worked fine for hands free

Worked fine for Media Player,

Down's:

Was very quiet in comparison

When changing the volumn sound stuttered (this dosent happen with the SPV set)

This is what I was worried about; impedance problems. I tried a Nokia radio-headset with the SPV, the sound (and fit) was fine but too weak to be any real use.

I have some closed headphones that would work great with the SPV. Th ey actually have a plug in cable at both ends (1 mini and 1 normall) but I can't find a mini-to-mini audio cable?!?!

Is there a definitive answer to the use of 2.5mm - 3.5mm jack converters from Maplins?

I want to use my SPV to play MP3's through my car stereo via one of those cassette converters from a CD player.

Cheers

Do you have a product code? I did a search on the Maplin website, but couldnt find them :)

http://www.pc-mobile.net sell a legit 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter. It was originally designed for the XDA I think, but it appears most things designed for the XDA also work with the SPV. (I have an XDA Sync & Charge USB cable which works a treat.)

There's a couple of options available for the converter. Either an extendable converter or a fixed short-length one.

I have had a quote of £3.70 + £2.50p&p with a delivery of 3-4 days for the short-length one. Their product code is PX35A.

There is another thread elsewhere on Modaco regarding this converter and someone in the thread has gone ahead and bought one with a satisfactory purchase so I think the site is OK.

The adapter works fine. It's well constructed and is right angled so shouldn't snap off in your headset socket :)

There is now an SPV specific page on their website - http://www.pc-mobile.net/spv.htm (the adapter is SP35A).
