Guest woof Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Ive seen a number of Threads about the constant high pitch noise that come from the power adaptor when the phone is not pluged in, and people getting electricuted. The high pitch noise is basically from the adaptor using a switch mode regulator that works on a high frequency, so you can hear it switch just like your TV. Being electricuted is basically from the capacitors discharging. The reson for the capacitor (I think) is to act as a slight surge protection. To prevent the capacitors emptying into your hand just simply make sure the phone is connected to the charger when you un plug it, the the capacitor will drain into the phones battery and not your hand. If you are just sick of your adaptor full stop, then buy a new adaptor, it doesnt have to be an adaptor made especially for the SPV (although beaware, using any other make will VOID you warrenty) just make sure the adaptor your buying has the same size plug to fit in to the SPV and that the output of the adaptor is......5v at a maximum of 1amp. (dont risk going higher!!!)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 If you put the charger to your ear and listen to it after it's been unplugged it will make a gradually higher and higher pitched sound, (as if it's about to explode :)) and then stop. Once it's stopped you're safe and can touch the pins on the charger! This topic has been discussed a few times before, and it's generally agreed that Nokia fast chargers work well with the SPV (6310 type), or just do the charge via USB mod to the cradle.
