Guest smartman Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 paul do you think O's website will be able to cope with the inundated traffic tomorrow when we all try to download the update file.. supposing we can locate it and is not delayed
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I think it will cope fine :) P
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 where exactly is this update going to be, url?
Guest smartman Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 nobody seems to know yet, also what form is this download in, will it be a activesync to phone or install from PC any ideas.... :?
Guest almark Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 If need be I can mirror it, and post the links here.
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 There shouldn't be a problem. Not all 40,000 users will rush to install it, and the Orange servers are bound to have dedicated connections of at least 100mb. That means at least 1,280 people will be able to download the update at 10kbytes/s. It's more likely to be near 200 hits at a time, and a 100mb connection has the capacity to support 213 people downloading at broadband speeds. My guess is that they're running on at least 1gb's capacity. Remember they stream video from their site as well.
Guest pete1312 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Sorry if I appear impatient, but does it really cost Orange an arm + leg to put one guy on overtime for one night to press one simple button to release this update to us all? Surely a progressive download from their site (starting Midnight) would be better for them than everyone (40,000?) trying to access their download site at 9am? I, for 1/40,000 of them, am off to bed! Can't be ars*d anymore!! I'll try again in a few days (or should that read weeks) after you enthusiasts have sussed out the remaining bugs!

Takes time, although they could have made the whole lot ready to upload in advance, I suppose. If it's any consolation to you lot in the UK, the speed increase post-DK-update was amazing and well worth waiting for. It made the difference between me getting shot of my SPV or not. The Picture Manager's a nice touch, too. Not a patch on IA Album, but it shows willing from Orange's side.

It should still only take one bl**dy button to activate it all :!:

Relax, dude, cut Orange a bit of slack - you'll get your update. You've waited a while, a bit longer ain't going to kill you....
