Guest hellboundpeanut Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Hey , im new here .. so new i havent got my spv yet , its in the post! Ive bought just the handset off ebay and im on O2, just wondering if its worth sending the phone to florin_m to get unlocked to O2, or just do the sim trick... or switch to orange ?... chars, Tomathy
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 florin will charge you. The SIM swap trick is only useful to the point where your phone crashes and you have to reboot, no good if oyu cant get to the charger :) Do Orange do SIM-only contracts?
Guest hellboundpeanut Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 yeh im sure they do , but i think ill buy a pay as you go sim. i hope mine doesnt carsh that often! god help that poor little box of tricks if it does! . thanks for the advice Tomathy
Guest raider Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Why pay for it :) When you can use the following link Unlock Phone I presume you want to be able to use your phone on any network? This will allow you to use O2 T Mobile etc. PAYG Sims do have limitations, you don't get all the functionality that you do with a contract phone. ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 PAYG Sims do have limitations, you don't get all the functionality that you do with a contract phone. :) UNless you use an Orange payg sim
Guest hellboundpeanut Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Waht functionality DO you lose ? - i posted that before the unlocking ... sorry (well happy that night , almost wrote off my O2 sim!! ) Tomathy
Guest raider Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 awarner - I purchased SPV with contract, that works fine. Have Orange PAYG sim, couldn't see a way of enabling GPRS, the phone would dial but nothing would happen (had the G symbol) on screen, it's as if it couldn't connect. Spoke to Orange CS :) they weren't any help so I have PAYG Sim sitting on the side :!: However I have since seen posts on modaco that you can get GPRS on PAYG etc, not sure what the costs would be as a PAYG customer compared to contract :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I have posted links to the Orange site explaining costs in previous posts but I have not the time to do it again at the moment :)
Guest raider Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 This link leads you to previous posts about PAYG - it may help :) PAYG POSTS
Guest hellboundpeanut Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Cheers you guys, but i dont really feel inclined to switch to orange as i have an o2 Payg card which offers free msgs.. do you know if O2 have a Gprs system or if its even compatable Have Orange PAYG sim, couldn't see a way of enabling GPRS, the phone would dial but nothing would happen (had the G symbol) on screen, it's as if it couldn't connect would it be just like this on O2 ? tomathy
