Guest spacemonkey Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I am currently shortlisted at a shop waiting on new stock to come in. I am somewhat reconsidering my options as to possibly getting a 7650 instead given some of the issues raised on this site. However one facter I would be interested in other peoples experience with is the camera. I am not interested in issues to do with the software and button presses to take snaps or the camera noise as these are minor software issues. What I would like to know is peoples opinions of the picture quality and useability in various lighting conditions. The 7650 doesn't seem to render colours very well and is quite blurry, I've looked for reviews on the web comparing various cameras but they tend to change the resolutions of the output images etc which makes their review a bit misleading. What resolutions does it work at? How much space do the pictures take up? Are there options in regards to level of compression (quality) of the output image etc?... Thanks for your time Monkey
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 The highest res is 640x480 file size (for me at that res) has been between 33k and 66k aprox depending on subject. picture quality I found was impressive at that small size with low light levels quality good. A friend of mine who had the Nokia for about 3 days before he sold it on said that the spv quality is better looking at the shots I took when I emailed them. Hope this helps you
Guest Moony1234 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 See: http://www.stx-hosting.com/Moony1234/spvpic.jpg That is a pic using the cam. It was taken in pretty bad lighting conditions as well.
Guest srcshelton Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Hmm, that's odd... Whilst I've found that the quality is pretty good (e.g. no blurring), I've had serious problems with light-levels. Even in a lit room, the pictures come out with everything except objects immediately in front of the camera black. I tried it again at work, during the day, into a well-lit modern office - again the results looked as if they were taken in twilight. I'm pretty convinced that I've got a problem here... I'll take some pics (memory permitting) tomorrow, and post what I get.
Guest Rob.P Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 If you take pictures under artificial light always expect problems unless you are using a proper camera. Most indoor lights will either give an orange hue to the pic or a blue hue to the picture. Orange hue will affect the lightness of the pic, with a proper camera you would be able to adjust the white balance, so all things considered it's not a bad camera for an attachment onto the phone. If you wanna take serious pictures you know what the answer is.
Guest srcshelton Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I have a Sony-F707 ... now *that's* a proper camera :D However, I'd like something that I can carry around with me at all times, and snap pictures of friends, or on the way to work... Currently, the SPV software and camera is so slow that this isn't practical. The problem I have under artificial light isn't a colour cast - it's that the camera often takes a black picture, even under well lit indoor conditions.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 srcshelton Did you remember to remove the protective film over the lens :D only kidding :( of course you did :?
Guest srcshelton Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Actually I did .... http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=364 :D
Guest Fulkrum Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 640x480 is the same on all mobiles with built in cameras including the t68i's mca20 bolt on. The quality of the SPV and the 7650 is pretty much the same. One point to remember is that the diggy cameras are designed to utilise MMS and not a true diggy camera. You still have to be perfectly still also as the exposure quality is not that clever.
Guest Andy_P Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 If you want to take pictures quickly, without too muck fuss, the 7650 beats the SPV hands down. You can press just one button, and you get a live preview with decent refresh rate. When you press the capture button, it takes the pic there and then. On the SPV you have to create a new message, select MMS, select picture. THen the screen refresh is appauling, and when you press the capture button, nothing happens for a couple of seconds, then it taked the picture, which has probably changed by then. I still prefer the SPV as a phone as I did not buy it primarily as a picture phone. It depends what you want to do with it.
