DK Update installed but no back up of original UK ROM

Well im sure that there are a few people out there who were as stupid as me in not backing up their original ROM, and who can't now install the UK update. What do you plan to do?

From what i see there are several of options:

1. Take the phone to your local orange store and ask them to reflash it for you (no scrap that, just ask for the SD card with the ROM on and do it ureself :))

2. Meet someone else who has a backup or get them to post it to you

3. Something to do with a SPV/XDA serial cable (not sure how this would work, could someone THROW SOME LIGHT on this)

4. Something to do with a download of the original ROM and then reflash with the aid of WINHEX (again, could someone please explain this)

Guess we're paying the price of having the DK update now. And i only installed that bloody update on Sunday! :x

I'm right their with ya. Although if you think about it you're not missing a whole lot. Pretty much everything we got in the DK update is near enough identical the UK version.

Snap, but they're saying there's a patch out tomorrow that'll fix it!

A patch? Where did you get that info from? Is it official? :shock:

I think you'll be lucky if Orange provide a patch to allow installs over the Update especially as they already told you not to install it in their official statement on the subject and they even strongly advised their DK customers to do a backup, as did all the MoDaCo users who tried it first...

I have it stored on an SD card but dunno how to get it off.... I dont have a reader.... :)

Probably a totally stupid question, but isn't it just a file? I mean, can't you just transfer using something like ActiveSync, or is it not quite as simple as that? :roll:

If you took an image of an updated phone how did you manage that when the bootloader won't let you backup anything?

I had the DK update installed on my phone so I needed to get back to the UK rom...

Popped down to the Orange shop and took an image of their rom version 1.116 or what ever it was...

This then gave me a locked UK spec phone that allowed me to perform the normal update on my SPV...

I have since then unlocked using the modified procedure found on this forum and am happily playing with a very fast phone.....

A cool little workaround to get the uk update on-top of the dk one.

think its time for a mod to lock this thread....
