Guest ajb3000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 The files that you need to change are different after the update, and the update put cert check back on!! Someone in the know please look into this as I'm stuck with a phone that won't run half the software I have on it!!
Guest PhilA Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I found that there's only one file you need to change, and it's called mxip_oem_10.provxml Make the same changes as in earlier posts replaces the original SecurityPolicy Then do a hard reset - the procedure for this has changed too - there's no prompt to press the action button - just press any key for bootloader (press the action key anyway - it still brings up the diags) Erase the IPSM as before, pressing 8 (only takes about 2 seconds now), and then you'll find that things have changed some more: There is no apparent way of exiting the diagnostics. Press and hold the power button, and the orange screen will appear. Wait for the blue screen to show, pop the phone in the cradle, and copy across as before. I've just done this and successfully installed the reg editor, but not done any more testing beyond that
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 So I just remove the extra parameter that is in the new version of the file?
Guest PhilA Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 To be perfectly honest, I didn't actually pay much attention to what the original "SecurityPolicy" settings were, I just copied the ones from the original unlocking post across the old ones. My mxip_oem_10.provxml file basically has the three parameters in for the security policy, and if they are the same as three out of the four in the original file, then yes, you just need to delete the extra one hth
Guest Orangatang Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Check out my post: Stuff Missing, I found another file that contains the security characteristic. Are you sure that EraseIPSM is safe without a backup? (Backups not possible now)
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Whatever I do or don't press I get to the Canery MV screen and can't do anything.
Guest bobroberts Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 cert unlocking is still the same except for two things... 1) you only have to edit one of the files - mxip_oem_10.provxml and 2) to get to the erase ispm screen you need to hold down the voice record button AND the action button as you press the power button. Then release the power and voice buttons whilst still holding the action button. Then release the action button and press it again straight away. Erase the ISPM then when it's finsihed press the power button. I had a original UK software then updated UK software then decerted. Took a couple of go's happy days
Guest MisterCurly Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 YES! ive just de certed after the update re certed my phone thanks to this thread! Thanx v much PhilA and Bobroberts :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 yep, worked for me too, now to install everything again, and of course i've lost all my txts, ggrrr....
Guest rossy Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I still can't get past the canary screen. I've tried to hold down the record and action keys, but once i let go, i cant press the action key again quick enough before the canary comes back. Any ideas???
Guest Firaas Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I still can't get past the canary screen. I've tried to hold down the record and action keys, but once i let go, i cant press the action key again quick enough before the canary comes back. Any ideas??? Put your SD card in the slot. Let go of the keys as soon as you see "Card Found". Take out the card (optional), and hold down the action key when instructed.
Guest tech_nut Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 The strangest thing. I've just installed the UK update and my phone is still certificate unlocked without me having to go through that rigmarole again. Hurrah!
Guest sirius-c Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 All i get when i release the keys is "press any key for bootloader", so i press and hold the action key, just got a white screen and nothing! PFFFF, This phones winding me up intensly, ive only had it 2 days, cant get gprs working, orange tech r a joke MOAN MOAN MOAN
Guest Toiter Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Not sure if this helps anyone else, but after updating my phone, I had no luck de-certing it (many, MANY tries!) until I made the updated file READ-ONLY prior to copying it across. Then it worked first time, and it was the only change I made to the procedure. Could have been luck, dont know....can anyone else confirm whether this helps or not? Have no real logic behind why it would :)
Guest Chic0 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I'm also haveing same problems de-certifying my phone after update. I have also found that only one of the files contains the security line. After I have erased the ISPM then press left twice and select option 3, nothing happens. I have to turn it off in order for it to come back on again. I dont even get the canary screen.
Guest Emmag Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I managed to get the EraseISPM option by following Firaas' idea with the SD card. My problem now is that I put the phone back in its cradle as soon as the blue screen appears but it is happily booted up and ready to go way before AtiveSynch has noticed it and connected. Any ideas?
Guest SirGaz Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 There are several options, Try turning the SIM password on which delays things by a couple of seconds. ALso try pre copying the files (using ctrl+c before you start the process, then you only have to press ctrl+v rather than copy AND paste. Last I would say, keep perseveering (sp?) and you'll get there in the end, some people have taken 20 or 30 goes to do it.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 It can also sometimes take the phone upwards of 5 minutes after booting to process the proxml's, try all the same and give it a few minutes between attempts...
Guest Pagemakers Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I de-certed after the update. See PhillA's posting above. Just change mxip_oem_10.provxml . Everything else the same. it works a treat.
Guest Myke Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I cant get to the menu to delete my ISPM.. ive tried everything. I wasnt able to turn the sim password on, but i was able to block my sim in the process.. :? is it that important to turn the sim password on? I've installed the update. HELP!
Guest Myke Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 nevermind, i got it... so much emphasis shouldnt be placed on how quick you have to press buttons, you dont have to press them fast at all! all you have to do is hold down the buttons, let go when it says card found, sit there and wait till it says press key now, and press and hold the action key! here i was pressing all buttons, waiting for the 1st screen i see to flash as i release all the buttons and press the action button again, all in .00001 second. Oye! at least i finally got it 8)
Guest frijj2k Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Right... After UK update my phone was still de-cert and my installed apps run fine. But.... CERTIFIED CABS wont install saying that there is no valid certificate installed on the device for this file. Like I said the CAB is certified... I have done the de-cert again on the phone but still its the same. De-certs work and Certs dont!??!? I havnt tried Certified apps yet, just cabs so will try now and let u know. Dave
Guest SirGaz Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 frijj2k - have you tried a hard reset followed by installing a certified cab? i.e. will it install without running de-cert?
Guest frijj2k Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 My phone has retained its de-certified state during the update. Are you asking me to do a hard-reset now? and then check.... Dave
Guest frijj2k Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 S$%^&T!!!!! I just went into diag to do a hard-reset and forgot I had a backup of DK update on my SD card and held the action button..... Now its installing DK Bootloader, CE and GSM :-( Damn! I will install UK again.... and let u know... ;-) Dave
