Guest akarno Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I thought this might be helpful for people considering upgrading now.
Guest madu Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 "Decided not to update" option? :)
Guest crimminsky Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 "can't upgrade get the caupdateut error" option?
Guest tinclunge Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 not a prob smooth as silk :)
Guest JusLee Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Apart from the dodgy spelling on the update software, there were no problems for me. :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I'm going to call O shortly and request a replacement phone...
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 after a Hard Reset all is fine, some of you having problems might like to try it out.
Guest hercules Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Easy, no problem Has it made any difference? time will tell
Guest Jas Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Just upgraded the software menu seems to be running faster at long last
Guest funky_munky Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 its great! it fixed my mms problem :)
Guest raider84 Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 no problem, running like a dream for now!! :)
Guest Hax Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Yep - one small prob. with the Power Management menu, but a hard reset seems to have fixed that. Then needed to de-cert again and that took about an hour and a half this time - eventually found that it was easier with the mains charger plugged into the usb base station and an sd card in the slot - seemed to slow down the phone and speed up the activesync start - don't know why but it did. Tried for over an hour without any success, then got mains charger and worked first time - weird? Hope this helps Hax
Guest aarrgghh Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Worked a treat, then de-certed the phone with no problems. The phone had never been de-certed before the update.
Guest pete1312 Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 You need another option in the poll buddy: Tried to Update - Win ME would not let me proceed  Other than that, phone still works (relatively) ok, i.e. as it came out of the box. :) Apart from - No Modem; No Permanent Sim Unlock availability, etc, etc
Guest Ross_Curtis Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 All seems well, it doesn't seem to make operations quicker but inital thoughts are the camera and its options are greatly improved. Colour balance now works and I'm able to take indoor shopts without having an aweful orange cast, the camera refresh rate is much quicker which makes it now almost usable;-) The picture manager is great, pity all those people who purchased the IA album. The biggest dissapointment of all it when playing games namely Motorcross, I use the the lock/back button for up and down and the 1/2 for left and right but now you cannot go at a diagonal as only one button at a time works, grrrrrrrr!!!
Guest FragMeister Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I dont even get as far as starting the upgrade as the installer crashes with the Error in GDI.DLL error. I guess that it is my fault for still being on Win98, but then, Orange say that Win98 is supported in the upgrade. I guess there for was no need to me to have "backuped up" the phone first - Great George W Bush-ism Orange. :)
Guest Thurstan Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I'm jealous you guys have got the update and because I'm on winME I haven't.
Guest Rog Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Apart from being stuck on an 'updating do not close' screen for over an hour (I finally took the battery out) it went well. Battery life is now, comparatively, impressive!
Guest Rammer Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 All u need to to is unplug the phone from the cradle, hard reset get canary screen, wack it in the cradle, (bottom left changes to usb) run the update...... it now lets it go on..... :)
Guest mashkhan Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Did it this morning, I was going to be sensible and back everything up. but couldn't wait. Update went fine, although I did have some problems at first with the update telling me I didn't have an SPV plugged in! Anyway the phone seems to me to be noticeably faster, it's also nice to see full signal strength.
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 One interesting change... you know how the backlight comes on when you press any key... Well, when it was devicelocked under the DK update the backlight and screen only comes on when you press the left softkey. Under the UK update the backlight and screen come up when you press a key on the keypad and it goes straight to the unlock password entry thing. I'm not to concerned one way or the other, just an interesting inconsistency.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 "can't upgrade get the caupdateut error" option? Same here buddy...O say 11.....i'll give em until 4 before I give 156 abuse !!!!
