Updated bootloader - USBTerm instructions

I'm a bit confused from all the other posts as everyone seems to be saying different things. Can you still backup anything with the new bootloader, ie even just IPSM? Is it still possible to load a whole image from an SD card (ie Bootloader, WinCE, GSM, IPSM) - I can't believe the new bootloader wouldn't let you do that otherwise how can M$ flash new SPVs?!

The amount of times my SPV has died I find backing up my IPSM very useful, and I really want to be able to keep doing it after the update! Anyone tried this yet? (Florin? :))

I noticed that too! :)

i wonder if you can overwrite the bootloader with the old one? the new bootloader allows you to load stuff off a MMC/SD card, just not backup things

ah pants, it won't let me restore actually :)

i'm downloading my complete backup onto my MMC card, i wonder if it'll let me load that...

The full backup is restored kinda straight from the card even before entering the bootloader - so that will work.. Same problem though. Even posted a new topic on thet > will delete now :)

Erm...interesting stuff! Looks like they tried (and failed) to stop us making backups :)

:) I can't get this to work, anyone else?

PC running Win2000 Pro.

Type usbterm at the command prompt, then get a flashing cursor on the next line, type qfs?, then again i just get a flashing cursor on the next line!

Am i missing something? Or just being stupid?

Doh, sorted - didn't see the first line where it says leave the SPV on the Canary MV screen :)

WARNING - I've just fried my phone with this!

DO NOT LEAVE THE CARD IN THE PHONE WHILE DOING A RESET (for de-cert).

I left it in and as soon as you press Action it tried to download the Bootloader off the SD and failed :)

:) Sorted!

This method of backup DOES work 8)

My problem was; i'd backed everything up (PBOOT CE GSM & ISPM), when i hit action it started to download/restore all of them (no option to restore individually) but once it said pboot success i reset the phone  and all i got was the Orange sunset screen  after lots of swearing i decided to try again and just left it and eventually restored all of them (15 mins), rebooted and now it's fine ;)

At least i know my backup works, just gotta try the full de-cert now

I used USBTerm to restore the old bootloader from an SD. Then I backed up everything using the usual method, ie. SAVE ALL on the bootloader menu on the phone.

Then I tested it. I cleared the phone and restored it ALL, and everything is there updated, new aps and a usefull bootloader. :)

How long does it spend on "waiting for check" mines been their for 15mins, is that normal, seems excessive, it never used todo this using the diag screen! Whats up ? Anyone else had a hang on "waiting for check"? (this is only when doing an IPSM or CE or GSM+CE backup) i think i might go back to the old bootloader if its this much of an effort to backup!

DJ Hope, I am having the same thing - kinda thought it was something wrong (still do). Was just about to post about this. Thought of reloading DK Canary 0.93/92 just as you. Does it eventually work fine then>? And I did not notice anything like SAVE ALL - so I assume one must be done after the other.. Is that correct?

neither have I. No luck whatsoever - wited for 30min+ and still 'waiting for check..' BTW - at start of 'qfs 2' it gave an error. See for yourself how it was (first perform qfs 0 then 2):

Waiting for check

Intersting thing is it seems to have written correctly, just not checked it because it comes up with "Wince, press any key to download" when you restart with the card in!

Posted

hmmm. but how would you know when it has finished? And you would not be sure *sure* that it has all backed up correctly and s*** - thus making it a bit useless at this stage.. I hope the guys come up with an update to this - else I'm back to prev. bootloader :)

I'm probably not being very helpful, but I didn't use USB Term for any saves, just to restore the old bootloader. Everything worked great.

Guys, for some reason on some qfs commands it does just hang on "waiting for check", i think i left it for 15 mins and then killed it, backup worked fine! I dunno what the errors are but i had some but the backup did work! Confusing.

A GUI version of this thing /with updated code/ would be v nice... Anyone up for doing that? We would need to find the author first I guess

Arisme wrote it mate! i bet the serial cable does a backup properly.....

What does this mean?

That the backups we made to SD card can't be re-loaded after the update?

Sorry for being dim....
