Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I was just installing the update, it got to 74% on the second part of the update and my computer crashed and turned of. Now the phone is stuck on `Upgrade 74% completed` Please help me quick
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Er. Hmm. Not sure what to do in this circumstance to avoid harming the phone. Because the update is only 74% complete, it means you can't load back into the main bit of the SPV, which means you can't reinstall the update. Best thing's probably to leave it there and call Orange in the morning - it will probably mean taking it into an Orange store to have the phone flashed from SD card. Unfortunately 156 closed at midnight.
Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 The only problem is, im not part of orange, can any one help, please
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 That's irrelevant. It's still an Orange phone, so Orange (or your retailer) are still obliged to support it. Did you make a backup of the original version or do you have a friend's phone to hand?
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 THIS MAY DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY. I TELL YOU THIS FOR INFORMATION ONLY! IT MIGHT BE WRONG turn phone off hold record button (on side of phone) while holding, turn phone on, keep holding record till screen comes on if neccessary, press action (centre button) to start boot loader. Wait for 3 colours canary screen. Connect it into the cradle and power run update on computer again. -------------------- worth a try.
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Can the update be run on the canary three colour screen? Not tried it with the UK update, but afaik it required access to the main bit of the SPV...
Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Ive just been told that orange might say it was careless of me if I take the battery off and void my warrenty. Are you sure they will still do something even though I never brought the phone from them. I do have another SPV at hand, but its that dodge on I brought I a so called mate, It works but obviously blocked, can i do something with that then to get my phone working
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Ive just been told that orange might say it was careless of me if I take the battery off and void my warrenty. Are you sure they will still do something even though I never brought the phone from them. Yep. They'll help you. If you wait for Orange's instructions in the morning, they'll be liable for telling you to do anything which makes the SPV any worse. In the meantime, get some sleep - I have coursework to do!
Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 shall I just leave it on, cause I have a feeling it will cut off anyway cause its not accepting any charge
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Leave it on the cradle with the power adapter plugged into the cradle.
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 well orange says on their website that if the phone will only boot to the three colour screen, then do the update again, so im taking it form that that itll update from there :)
Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Ok thanks, does anyone have the land line number to oranges technical department???? and what time they open
Guest Firaas Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 07973 100 156. They're open from 8 til 8. If you want to try anything, as long as the website advises so, Mark's advice sounds useful.
Guest woof Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I just dont want to void the warrenty, I need them to help I aint got the money for a new one
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 well its your call. the safe option is to wait and call orange. you said help me fast. so i did. what else can i do?
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Ive just been told that orange might say it was careless of me if I take the battery off and void my warrenty. I've frazzled a good few Nokia phones in the course of updating firmware, most recently the crappy 6210 my boss gave me a while ago. Just took it back to the shop (Sonofon) and said "it's busted", got a new one straight away. I can't imagine Orange'd make any bones about replacing this - they must surely accept that there's a certain risk involved when allowing users to flash their own phones. Judging from the posts here from the last 12 hours, all kinds of errors have been reported (and that's only the people posting here) - you could always tell Orange that the update just "went wrong"... I'd hardly say it was careless of you to take the battery off - after all, what else were you supposed to do?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 That's what i'm banking on when they get back to me later this morning... :)
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 That's what i'm banking on when they get back to me later this morning... :) You get a result, Mono?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Sorted it. Problem with their software it seems, i brought my cradle/charger into work and ran the update (for hte first time) on my work PC and it ran through as if the phone hadn't been effected. Fully updated, de-certed and sim-unlocked now. The update at home was trying to communicate with the phone after losing contact between erasing and restoring the ipsm. I have a full theory worked out, if your that interested drop me a PM :)

I wanted to flash it to 1.5 operator when something went wrong. All i got was the 3 colored screen. I tried to flash it from that 3 colored screen but it didn't seem to do much. I waited for 45minutes before i aborted that 2nd try. Even a 3th try and ofcourse nothing. Then i read ure post about using another computer and thank god my girlfriend left her laptop at my place. So i put ActiveSync and the update file onto a CD hooked my SPV onto the laptop and wadayaknow.... It works!!! :   :) :( Phew.. time for a shower! I was really starting to get sweaty! :P
