Hello,

I have been tryin gto get my USB modem working on the phone and in desperation called Orange. They said they had been having USB trouble with users who had installed the rom upgrade. I can connect to the internet through ir on my phone fine, just USB that wasnt working. I would recommend that people trying to connect through the usb cradle wait a couple of days to see if orange release an update.

Hope that stops some of yo ubanging your heads against a wall

Just been asked to put my findings so far as i've been playing with the usb modem tonight.

I got it working, this is with the UK update and WinXP Pro SP1.

Using the instructions in this thread, i managed to get an active data connection working, connected to Orange's ISP in whatever form it comes (i think over WAP however i've been told by 156 it was GPRS....more on that in a second)

It clocked in at a massive ~30kbits/s :). But it did work fine.

No now i have it working i am wanting to connect to my own backup dialup unmetered(ish) ISP, i went to where i though the obvious place was to set the connection on my phone was, data connections > edit > dialup > add, and put the relevent details in. I then looked at the Orange CSD WAP (only other) option, which connects to the orange csd network obviously....

So, i go back to the modem link, but theres no option to select which connection to use, at this point i called 156 to clarify some details. The girl there said that using that i was using Orange as an ISP, and i was in a data (GPRS) call, and as long as i didnt go over my £6/month limit i wouldn't be charged....this confused me and i asked about WAP but she assured me it was data...

Either way i then went on to asking how i could set it dial into a custom ISP (eg the one i set up), and she has referred me to level 2 support, they're all busy but she is going to call me back when she gets through.....update then

I stand corrected, my usb modem is now working as well. Followed the excellent instructions in the post above (and linked post) and it now works fine. Orange gave me a different initialisation string whic didin't work
