Guest drblow Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 HELP! I started the new UK update from Orange last night (24th) and it crashed just afterstarting the installation. My SPV is now stuck with the intro screen from the installation (displaying canary MV v0.93) - and active sync no longer recognises that there is a device installed so I can't communicate with it at all - and Orange don't seem to know what to do! Can anyone tell me how to re-install the update, or even my original operating system???
Guest jmrodriguez Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I am having the same problem and I am starting to get desperate. Activesync won't recognize the SPV and there is no way to bypass the bootloader. PLEASE HELP.
Guest mashkhan Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Have you tried a hard-reset? - Remove the battery and wait 5 seconds. Replace the battery - Press and Hold voice recorder button (below the power button on the left-hand side) - Power-on the device - The device will enter a special power-up mode - "Card found" will be displayed on the screen - Shortly after you will receive two options: "Press any key to enter boot loader" and "Press action button to enter diag mod" - Press and hold the Action button - After a few seconds a menu will be displayed - Select "Erase IPSM" and wait for the screen to display "PASSED" - Then move to the left with the navigation button and select "END" - A screen with three colours will be displayed You may now remove and replace the battery and perform a normal power up
Guest jmrodriguez Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Mashkhan.... I already tried that and I did not have any sucess with it. Thanks anyway.
Guest jmrodriguez Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 drblow.... I already got my phone up and running... I followed WeZ01y's advise on this link: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...er=asc&start=45 and it worked just as he described it. Good Luck.
Guest drblow Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Yo JMRodriguez - I did the same thing!! Although, when I did the hard reset and powered up again, the SPV was still the same, just stuck at the canary three colour screen - but I just plugged into the cradle and restarted the update and it worked this time! I'm going to take great pleasure in phoning Orange now to tell them how to fix their phones! Cheers.

Guest jaywalker Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 sighs.. nope.. just get option to press button for bootloader.. nothing else.. if i hold action button down makes no difference it always ends up on the canary 3 colour screen. sighs.. didn't need this today..
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Jaywalker, you should try running the update from another PC, one which hasn't previously been used for an install. Monolithix experienced something similar and managed to sort the problem this way. Taking the battery off only seems to make things worse. It doesn't help the update process, at any rate. The problem may be that taking the battery off scrambles any flags/checksums that have been written during the update process to enable the update to resume in case of crashes and so on. Maybe the update app's also writing a log file somewhere on the host PC that doesn't match the partial ROM on the phone, hence the phone just won't accept any data from the host PC - bear with me here, I'm still guessing at the minute. A mate and I are taking a look at the prob. to see if we can come up with a solution - no promises, though, as I'm quite new to all this (he knows more about it, tho'). I'll post a new thread and link to it from here if we get something sorted. EDIT: Anyone who has any info about what you did in the course of an update that didn't go according to plan - whether it worked or not - is welcome to PM me, it might help us locate where the fault lies. Cheers :)
Guest CaptainZok Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 updating using the french fix the update seemed to freeze at the start 0% erased thought that may be due to updating thru usb hub so i removed phone from the cradle attached cradle to different box(direct) and got the canary screen when i rebooted the phone. Followed the info from WeZ01y's post and then reran the update without any probs hope that helps you some
Guest jaywalker Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 but.... the update went fine... i was using the phone all day.. it crashed last night... totally froze on home page.. all i could do was take battery off.. Since then i haven't been able to get the phone to work.. I am able to get the canary screen up (3 colour screen) when i use the 'record' start up, but do not get ANY other option available so cannot do the hard reset.. this is truly frustrating.. If i get it to the canary screen am i able to rerun the upgrade?
Guest jaywalker Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 The moment i got into work, and powered up with the device in the cradle, it booted.. and now works!!! erm... not very mobile mobile if it has to be in its cradle to work is it :)
Guest tom2 Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I have been experiencing a similar problem. Upgraded fine and was using it after. Was in internet explorer and the screen frooze. Only solution was to remove the battery! When I tried to turn the phone back on the phone got stuck on the sunset page. I have tried the hard reset but I too only get the option "Press any key to enter boot loader" and no option to press the action key. Problem not fixed when in the cradle either. I phoned orange to see if they could fix it and they asked me to do a hard reset and press the action key anyway (but still to no avail!). Next step was to take the phone into an orange shop to see if i was doing it correctly and to see if they had a solution. Again no solution. Unfortunately I do not have orange care so a 24hr replacement is out of the question unless I fork out £30 for a problem I do not believe I caused. They said I could have a replacement for a one off charge of £70 also. I opted for the fix under warranty which will take about a week at minimum. Whilst I was in the shop (30 mins or so) 3 other SPV customers came in with complaints! One to give up and move to a P800. They had a few of these there and I had a play. No delays on camera movement and the internet is much faster! Looks very nice. Does anyone know of a better solution or advice?
Guest Iain.Maclean Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I upgraded last night and it's been fine till this lunch time, i found it had turned itself off. After that it refused to boot, getting as far as the smartphone screen then turning itself off. Even hard reset was impossible (hanging on the three colour screen). However i have just removed the memory card and it *seems* to be ok... Hope that helps anyone... Iain
