Guest pete1312 Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Ok - I've at long last got the UK Update working (by using the FR/UK work-around method posted elsewhere). I'm now trying to get USB Modem working. After activating Modem Link & plugging SPV into Cradle, my laptop (for the very first time in over 2 months) recognises a new Modem called HTC USB Modem. I originally forced it to install the USBMDM-5.INF file posted elsewhere by Paul (MVP). I later re-installed it using the originally supplied Orange CD file USBMDM.INF. I've also noticed another file on the Orange CD called WCEUSBSH.INF, but cannot even access that one. After apparently installing the Modem, I go to Settings, Control Panel, Modems and the HTC USB Modem is shown. As soon as I click on Properties I get an error message: The modem properties cannot be displayed because the modem information is corrupt. remove this modem by clicking Remove and add it again. So, I've removed it and re-added it (lost count of the number of times and different Driver options) Also re-booted umpteen times. Always comes back to the same error message as above. Any clues would be much appreciated please. Thanks in advance.
Guest Tommo Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 This seems to be a common problem, I've got the same problem on ME
Guest mike-oh Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Yeah there's a lot of issues with it. I can't get it working on 98s/e either. EXACTLY the same problem as you pete. Had to go to a friends house to upgrade the bloody thing! Someone should tidy up all these usb modem not working threads cos they're spreading everywhere! And hopefully produce a solution too......orange if your reading this! Why can't they just produce an .exe install file?! hmphh mike
Guest pete1312 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Can anyone suggest a solution to this? (Apart from an expensive PC update to Win XP)!

Guest pete1312 Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 70 quid for XP Home to you gov'ner Thanks Monolithix - I've sent you a PM to see if you are a serious seller. Otherwise, what's the best price anyone out there can offer me for 2 x Upgrades from ME to XP Pro? (I'm a single user, but have a PC + a Laptop).
Guest hex Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Just to confirm, I am having exactly the same problem with ME. Anyone got a serious solution? I can't upgrade coz my laptop belongs to work and they aren't gonna pay for an upgrade so I can use my phone!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 No fix. Bug Orange about it Sorry :/
