Guest Croccy22 Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Before the update I had already unlocked my phone. I applied the Orange update(The later version that was posted on the orange website). It has all installed, The new applications are there and the version is correct but my phone is still application unlocked!! Has anyone had this. Has anyone actually tried running locked applications after the update without messing around with the settings? Matt
Guest sykix Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 The Orange update does not turn "signed app only" back on. Which answers your question. Although, a couple of days ago, I was fiddling around on my phone, doing nothing in particular, turned it off then on, only to find that APP SIGNED ONLY APPS HAD BEEN TURNED BACK ON AGAIN. stupid phone
Guest sarge Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 oddly enough, on saturday my phone suddenly re-certed itself as well, hmmmm. However, my main bugbear with the updated software is that despite turning the timeouts to NEVER, the damn thing keeps reverting to the home screen when I'm trying to navigate menus.....and its really p*****g me off!
Guest Croccy22 Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 How odd. I can't see how it is working. Unless the update only erases certain files and perhaps does not replace the files requires for unlocking unless you actually do a hard reset. Oh well, saved me a job anyway. :) Matt
Guest sykix Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 (a) OK, so the update probably had nothing to do with it. Unless of course you have inside connections and got the update early! I wonder what causes it? (:) Mine's doing that a lot more since the update.
Guest raider Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I applied the update to my unlocked phone, no problmes at all. The Orange update does not turn "signed app only" back on. :) It has not yet automatically tried to apply the lock either :!:
Guest sykix Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 As far as I can tell, there are no files required for the unlocked phone (after you unlock it). The provxml files are used just as .reg files are, as a way of getting the information into wherever it needs to be. The security settings are stored elsewhere. Registry maybe? When you do an IPSM erase, smartphone looks at the provxml, at which point you have manager security priveledge so you can set the next security priveledge. Orange set it to quite low, the unlocking sets it quite high. This is not affected by the update since it is apps and patches only, and not a rom flash.
Guest ivanmacx Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Yes, update doesn't relock phone. However, if the registry gets corrupted in some way eg. because of a crash, the phone rebuilds it and ends up relocked. See also this thread
