Guest Pagemakers Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Anybody got an SPV and P800 - if so, how do they compare?
Guest Yousaf Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 me i do and to be honest they are both different enough for me to want to keep both. the p800 has a way better camera and aswell as supporting REAL POLYPHONIC midis and other small things they are both good for very different reasons. The p800 is more a PDA Phone whilst the SPV is more of a phone with large storage and mp3 capabilty. the touch screen allows for many different type of apps to be produced (in terms of usabilty) after the UK update the speed difference between the two phones is not that great but symbian is slightly faster and only just slighty more stable. But after being able to unlock my spv and the greatly improved preformance after uk update i aint letting it go- to summarize: if you want a compact phone with cool games and music capabilty go for the spv. (for mms its difficult to take a picture with the stutter) if you want a personal organiser and phone (thats a bit larger than the spv) and rather than a seperate phone and PDA combo go for the p800
Guest Pagemakers Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Thanks Yousaf. I'm sticking to the SPV - er Smartphone. As soon as the Intel version is out I'm off - oh the thought of proper buttons........
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I'd say the intel version is unlikely to ever be released to the public in the form we saw posted. It's a proof of concept cos intel want to sell their bus/DSP/XScale(ARM) internals to other handset manufacturers. We'll need to wait and see what the other manufacturers do with what intel is selling. Thanks for the post Yousaf... confirms pretty much what I thought the differences between p800 and spv are. (I only have spv). I'm gonna look at the market again early next year and see what my next upgrade will be. So far I'm probably still leaning to that being a M$ Smartphone device of some kind.
Guest Pagemakers Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Spacemonkey, from http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/3115.html "China-based Wistron, known for manufacturing Dell's Axim line of handhelds, is the first manufacturer the first to make use of the concept design and intends to have a device available later this year. Based on the reference design, the Wistron smartphone will offer an Intel PXA262 processor, a 176 x 220-pixel color display, an integrated camera and up to five hours of talk time." And another one here: http://windowsfordevices.deviceforge.com/n...9210154152.html
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 That article suggest a couple of different Smartphone 2002 devices other than the HTC ones due sometime this year. It's not 100% clear on whether the picture is of one of these devices or whether it's the intel reference design (which is my understanding). The pictured one seems vaguely cool, but from the other pics I've seen didn't seem to have an integrated camera and also look like it's got a roller instead of a joystick/pad. All good tho. Sounds like in december when my contract is up I'll have some options. Another useful point. The XScale is supposedly running at 200Mhz, now this doesn't necessarily mean it will be more than twice as fast as our 84Mhz SPV, in some pocket pc discussions I've read it sounds like the XScale cpus have a significantly slower memory bus so even tho it will be quicker, it might not be quite that much quicker...
Guest neilfenstein Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 what make you say that the spv is 84MHz? is it not running at 132MHz like the microsoft sute suggests!?!
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 It is not running at 132Mhz like the microsoft site suggest. In fact the processor is specced to run at up to 132Mhz but it is infact under clocked on the SPV, presumably to get better battery life.
