Anyone noticed that Video playback in Media player is far better since the update.

I spent the night learning how to Rip DVD's and this morning on the way into work I was able to watch a 40 min clip without a single pause or wait icon.

to be honest mine was ok before no buffering etc.. so to me it seems about the same, but at least now if you set backlight to stay on and no screen turnoff it works and you can watch clips without constantly having to press a key to see the screen again so i'm thankfull for that :)

Before the update the video would freeze even on a small 4 minute file its very smooth now - The update was worth it for this alone

I'll have to try Surfing again - anytime I have tried to listen to music in the past while surfing the music keeps cutting - If you can run both at once that would be great

Not sure how you guys have an improvement in the video.

I just tried encoding a video with the latest software and it was worse that before not better

The sound is incredibly tinny and the video still stutters.

More so now that before the update

It might be better, but it's still no where near the quality of PocketMP or whatever it's called

Does the update allow - in cradle SPV to properly join, & show memory status in Med.Play.7 & Win Sys.

ajb3000 - for the class of amplifer in SPV, the performance is impressive. Amps are rated by how well the handle high freq. transients. On the spv it's outstanding for that class. There is a fall off at low freq.'s but given the capsule/diaphram diameter it's pretty good.

U can achieve dramatic audio o.put qual. improvmet by raising the sample rate (64k-good; 96k v.good; 128k- as good as all but pro qualCD) on the source digital file, and of course by adding a genuine hi fidelity head set.

Not sure if I understand - the software I use to encode hasn't changed I still use MS encoder. Only playback on the SPV has improved

Media Player 8 on XP Pro still shows 0bytes of free space when you go to copy anything

You can now leave music in the background to play properly!?! I have to try it, before the update music in the background was truly terrible.

Alanclose, what i meant was playback of video now seems worse in terms of quality but it definately is smoother.

I may need to tweak the settings, according to the guide on this forum the image quality should be set to 0 but the results im getting since the update is very pixelated video now.

It doesnt skip frames as much just looks awful

One thing i did notice however is the guide here seems to be for windows encoder 8 where as i have ver 9 now it is out and the settings are slightly different.

what's this about the backlight staying on during playback??

Mine still fades and then switches off! Is it something that needs to be enabled?

Yes h00pyfr00d you need to go into

programssettingspower management and setbacklight timeout to never and screen saver mode to none... but remember after watching video clips to set them back to what they were before ie. 30 seconds timeout for backlight and screen saver to turn off... if this was done before update it did'nt work but now it seems it does

incidently does anyone know what the background play does in the

windows mediamenusettings option its ticked on mine but dont have a clue what it does...any ideas

no no no no. I know that!!

Obviously I missunderstood.

I thought Smartman meant that you could enable it to have the backlight always on only when watching movies....not just permanently on.

That would be nice.

yes h00pyfr00d i see what you meant now but i guess this would have to be a microsoft upgrade for media player to make it work like you suggest perhaps O could update this in the future

It means if you are listening to music and hit the back button to bring you back to the menu of home screen that the music will continue to play

I use my own settings for encoder to try and minimise file size so mine always tended to be pixilated - now that the player is running properly I will try using the settings posted here to see if that improves the quality any
