Guest Honest John Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 OK. Before anyone says it, I goofed. Admitted, accepted, now need to move on. Basically, I tried the update on Windows 98, failed with error 117, followed advice elsewhere on the forum without following the whole thread and now find myself stuck on the 3 colour screen. Basically, I ran Canary_RUUv.32(etc).exe without checking my back up was done  , got jammed on the 3-colour menace screen, did diagnostics etc, saved and restored every damned option there is and now find that Active sync doesn't recognise my Smartphone, Windows wont detect the device if I try to install it on a Windows 2000 PC and, unless I want to use the smartphone as a permanent glowing 3-colour flag of Transylvania or some other damned country, it is usless for anything else. Orange tell me to return it to them for repair as I am in a catch-22 situation, caused primarily by them overlooking the fact that it is a Windows product and Microsoft updates have the dent in ping-pong ball affect. I am happy to return it, but if anyone has a constructive solution that might avoid returning it to Orange, I would be grateful. Assum that I have no back up, although when running any of the Load CE/OEM etc options, it always says Passed and does recognise when it is in the cradle, although the PC blissfully ignores it. Thanks folks!
Guest jmrodriguez Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Have you tried this... it might help following WeZ01y's advise on this link: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...er=asc&start=45 Good Luck.
Guest Honest John Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Thanks for this. I will try it tomorrow when my SPV and PC cancpoulate once more. One of the disadvanrages of the forum now being so popular is that gems such as this are buried away in a mass of other information, gripes, banter etc. If this works, it should ba a sticky as it is bound to affect many others - especially if they follow some of the advice in other threads that actually caused me to be in this state!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Honest John Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I have managed to get the phone working using this advice. Thanks BUT Of course, this only works with Windows 2000 or above and I have 98! (The problem in the first place). So I used a Windows 2000 PC. Saved sending the phone back, though.
