Guest Myke Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Why hasnt a program like dragon talk been developed for this or any (to my knowledge) yet? A program that lets you talk into the phone, recognize what you say, and then write it down as text? The phone seems like the perfect medium for this, its already got a built in microphone! - 5-10 minute voice collaboration the 1st time you use it - easily write TEXT notes by holding down a key & sync notes with outlook notes - easily write sms messages and emails with your voice. the only setback I can see is the actual program which would be a few megs.. but phones are coming out with more and more memory, i dont think that should be a problem. i personally think microsoft and software companies think "well it's working right now, why add anything extra" what do you guys think? i think it would be a sweet extra feature!
Guest Moony1234 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 i think the cpu would be a problem... when training/using the PC version ur cpu useage flies up to 100% when you speak. Would be a very good idea though!
Guest James Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 never even thought of it! what a brill idea! not sure the spv has got the power though.
Guest Emad Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 The phone has nowhere near the CPU power or memory to handle this. Think about it - you need to take in the sound wave and match it up to various sound waves of words - thats a LOT of processing power and a LOT of memory for the program/dictionary.
Guest Richie M Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 They couldn't even get voice dialing to work (which is why it wasn't included)!
Guest midnight Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 full voice recogintion isnt really possible (it isnt so much down to the cpu usage, but that size of the files needed, i think dragon needs around 100mb for installation). But voice dialing is possible, and by the looks of it soon, check here. And this IS coming out on smartphone
Guest Richie M Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Thats Fantastic Midnight, but i couldn't find a mention about Smartpgone development are you sure?
Guest midnight Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 yup, go to the fonix.com frontpage and you'll see this text... Automotive & Mobile/Wireless Solutions Fonix VoiceDial the "Killer App" for Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone devices. Download Now.
Guest Myke Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 bah, we can play doom on it, im sure the technology will soon arise where we can dictate to our phone
Guest midnight Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 like i said its nothing to do with technology but the size of the dictionary required to have good speech recognition.
