Guest neuronisis Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Hi, well i've played around with virtual Dub and DivX 503. My success seems to be some how limited. I downloaded The Matrix trailer, that worked great. I'm just finding my results well, strange  . Some times my encodings work and some times the screen goes green and then crashes or plays about 0.5 seconds and reverts back to the home screen. Has any one else encountered these problems? Anyhow, i was wondering if any of you guys would like to post your best encoding settings, this would be great as now i've seen DivX on my phone i really don't want to go back to WMV!!!!! Cheers :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Use DiVX 5.02, i had similar problems when using 5.03 which seemed to be rectified by downgrading. You can download the DiVX 5.02 bundle here: -edit- pm me if you still need it (might need to give it a few minutes to finish uploading, damn crappy adsl having only 256k/s upload :/) (edit- scratch that, might need to wait a couple of hours instead, my connection has scrweed up by the look of it, transfering at
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Hmm seems my host is screwed, can't upload at all now, you'll either have to google for it or wait until i upload it again in the morning...
Guest neuronisis Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Cheers Monolithix, just downloaded it from your website. Busy as hell today but i will definately dedicate the whole evening trying. I'll let you know how i get it on,thanks again 8)
Guest neuronisis Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Yeah, worked a treat, very nice. Now i'm going to try and find some happy medium between quality and file size. At the moment almost a MB a minute.... Cheers :)
Guest theodotcom Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 hi mate go here: http://www.divx-digest.com/movies/a-c.html loads of trailers converted to divx format, all u need to do is resize them in virtual dub. :)
Guest neuronisis Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Nice one, i didn't think to download the trailers and i have divx-digest.com on my favourites!! At the moment i've been using a small clip from The Matrix, the shoot out scene with the security guards. I found using the smooth filter when moving it to 100%, lowering the bitrate in DivX 5.0.2 to 165K and setting the Variable Bitrate Mode to 2 -pass, second pass lowers the file size quite a bit. Also reducing the audio has the same effect. However, it's finding a happy medium between quality and file size :)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I only use a video bitrate of 100K or less, and the quality's fine (but obviously you end up with smaller files).
