Guest SPARKY Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Does anyone know if there is any information on how to use the two new applications that came with the recent uk update, i.e picture manager and sound manager, I thought a help menu or information overview would be included, but I cant find one. many thanks for any help :)
Guest meaks Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Well Picture manager is just a program that lets you see your pictures easily. Before you had to start a new mms just to see your pics. By the way it only shows pictures that you take from the spv's camera. Sound Manager I have no idea about sorry. It seems to record a sound from the spv's microphone and convert it to an AMR sound - which takes bloody ages too.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Picture and sound manager are almost the same apps as you get when you click edit...sound or picture in the MMS composer (ie what was there pre-update) if that helps. If you click on a picture in Picture Manager it zooms in and gives you a few more options (still not as good as IA album though!)
Guest martin Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Sound Manager converts speech/sound to AMR (Adaptive Multi rate). Its a set of coding algorithms like FR (full rate) & EFR (Enhanced full rate). Networks use this coding to reduce the bit rate of speech before transfering over the radio network. Can produce very small files but it requires the phone to decode it. Nobody's mentioned the 'New Melody' option in Sound Manager. It's for creating your own ring tones - looks OK. I've just found it now so haven't tried to use it yet. Any there any good composers out there who can comment on its usability. I'm tone deaf. MAYBE WE COULD SEE SOME CONVERSIONS APPEARING ?
Guest martin Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Melody Maker lets you save to SD card. NICE ONE ORANGE.
Guest xmob Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 The sound manager creates iMelody format ringtones. These were an attempt at creating a standard ringtone format but only really got used by Ericsson and Motorola. The good news is that you can loads of small (as in file size) ringtones off the web in this format. BUT. For some reason MS/O decided not to include support for these files as actual ringtones, only for use in MMS messages. I'd love somebody to prove me wrong.
Guest xmob Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Forgot to say. You can also get converter that convert RTTTL format ringtones to iMelody too.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 The iMelody composer was there pre-update, it was just buried in the MMS software. It's OK; they've fixed some bugs in it now, but the "effects" still don't work. Calling these new apps is pusing it a bit though - Sound manager is (AFAIK) exactly the same as what was in the MMS composer pre update and picture manager only adds a zoom/rotate function to the existing s/w. You can't fool us Orange! :)
