Guest petecowie Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Had my phone for 3-4 weeks now, actually my second handset as ornage replaced it because they couldn't work out how to get a GPRS connection for me. Still not managed it though. Have phnoed 156 about 14 times so I thought I'd ask you guys... Pick orange site no1 from internet explorer GPRS siganl strength in top right hand cornet flashes between G and Signal Strength then.... unable to place call. OK, can somebody please post or tell me where I can find all the data connection settings for my phone, or am I barking up the wrong tree??! Maybe it just isn't meant to be......
Guest Tommo Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 This probably won't help but...I had the same problem yesterday and this morning, however it was cured by turning th ephone off and back on again..
Guest strathclydezero Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I have the same problem. 156 is blaming it on network problems and says it's widespread.
Guest jhew Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I had this problem when I 1st got my SPV too. GPRS wouldnt work so I called 156, they said they'd look into it, and call me back. A week to the day later (xmas was inbetween) they called back and said they had sorted it, and hey presto, GPRS worked. It was a network problem and nothing to do with the phone. No amount of settings changes will really help, as it's most likely a fault at their end. Seem to remember reading another thread somewhere with other users with the same prob. 156 reset their GPRS privaledges (or something similar) on their accounts and it started working. Try it. I'm sorry that it's not much of a suggestion, but it's all I can think of. Just keep badgering 156. Also if you really want to edit your connection settings goto programs -> settings -> data connections. Do a search on here if you need detailed settings.
Guest martin Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I would go to an Orange shop. Tell them to put a another GPRS activated SIM in your phone. If this other SIM works then its not your phone settings. They may have more luck getting GPRS activated correctly in you account.
Guest strathclydezero Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I did this. A different sim works fine, my current sim still doesn't work. Orange have blamed it on my sim working on different channels to the other sim though. Any luck yet Pete?
Guest martin Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Sims on different channels ? What! If your phone can successfully connect to the GPRS network with another sim then go back to Orange customer services and tell them this. They should hopefully re-check the settings in your subscriber data.
Guest wiltsboy Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 HELP!!! I have the same problem, as of yesterday evening I keep getting the same ERROR message when trying to use GPRS. I phoned 156 and was told that it was because the 'GPRS coverage is "Shady" in that area' the woman also said she would send me the GPRS setting as this might help. She also told me that it might work better when I move out of the area eg. when I goto work, what a supprise still not working. The only thing that has happened to my phone recently is that I had conference calling enabled on my phone could this cause the people. Does anyone know, pleeeeaaaasseee heeeeeelllllllpppppppp.
Guest strathclydezero Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I have been in 4 different areas and orange tell me the GPRS is 'degraded' in all 4 areas. Yeah right.
Guest toadvox Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 I'm having the same problem. Error - Unable to place call. Orange did a post code check and told me that something like 13 transmitters were not supporting GPRS currently and that 3 or 4 were down totally. This is in the Birmingham and surrounding areas. They said it was supposed to be back on line by the 25th, but that they were having unforseen problems.
