Guest claffa Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 right ive followed orange update to the letter, removed phone from cradle after successful update, removed battery and left for a minute b4 replacing battery and switching on, now the phone wont switch on and is acting like its dead(no flashing light even when connected to the battery?? is it a gonner? :)
Guest SirGaz Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 How many times have you pressed the power button? I have the problem (and several others have reported the same) that it takes several pushes for the phone to come on. Someone reported (and it blooming well works!!!) that if you disconnect the SD card then it will come on straight away. You don't need to pull it out, just click it out of the connectors. Also try putting the phone in the cradle, does the led come on as though it's charging? If not then something may be off with the phone.
Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I had to put mine back in the cradle after the update and then press the power button to turn it on. Give that a go... M
Guest claffa Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 nah no led nothin :) bin tryin different things all afternoon now and no luck ;)
Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Just out of curiosity... .. take the phone out of the cradle and hold it to your ear when you try to turn it on. Do you hear a slight 'clicking' noise from the speaker? If so, this tends to point to a drained battery. Don't be surprised if this has happened after the phone was fully charged, my first SPV had a habit of fully discharging at a moments notice. I'd try putting the phone in the cradle over night. Hope this helps! M
Guest claffa Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 yes it hissis like its workin then stops! but when on charge the little light isint comin on ?should this come on when the phone isint switched on? also the charger was on while it was updating,(wouldnt this save the battery? thx 4 all ya help btw :)
Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Hi Claffa, Depending on the extent of any battery discharge the phone may have to remain on charge for a few hours before you will even see the flashing LED. This is not unique to the SPV however, the numerous Ericssons I have owned required several hours of 'pre-charging' if the battery was fully discharged. Can't hurt to give it a go huh? M
Guest claffa Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 cheerz m8 will give it a go ;) and report back :)
Guest claffa Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 been charging ALL night no light indicator and still getting the clicking while trying to turn on :) am starting to get withdrawal symptom's now
Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Hi Claffa - do you have orange care? If not I'd take it out now... Looks like it's a dead unit - I'd get it swapped out if I were you. M
Guest claffa Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 i dont have orange care, i paid for the fone from orange on 27/1 (invoice date) got it a few days later and my upgrade fee is coming out of my account 2day by direct debit am i still intitled to an exchange???
Guest claffa Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 also have been in contact with orange (yesterday and this morn) and am waiting for the technicians to get back 2 me
Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Standard 'returns' period is 14 days from purchase - but under UK law you have a 12 month 'warrenty' anyway - if you pitch it to Orange correctly I think they'll send you a new unit. Worst comes to worst and you're looking at £30 for Orange emergency cover I'm afraid. Don't back down with Orange - ask to speak to a supervisor and give them some grief...
Guest stevesco Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003  Claffa :  Your phone is dead, the Bootloader has been corrupted and therefore it can't start. A point for anyone, don't screw with the bootloader !! it will kill your phone!!! :?: Symptons, press power ON, whilst holding it to your ear, you will hear it hiss for a few seconds the it will click off. It will hiss all the time it has external power.

Guest claffa Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Claffa : Your phone is dead, the Bootloader has been corrupted and therefore it can't start. YEAH BUT HOW HAS THE BOOTLOADER BECOME CORRUPTED ??
Guest stevesco Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 What will orange say when i'm gonna ask for a new one ? will they give me the fault because it happened after fiddling with the bootloader.. there are various ways to screw the bootloader..... what happens if your updating the bootloader and it fails and you remove the battery (mistake).Your left with 1 incomplete bootloader !!!! ... in your case it just seems like the update process screwed up....
