Guest wirefree90 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Just to let you all know that Orange are planning to release more updates for the SPV. Their are no current timescales for their release but SPV should just get better and better. These updates will be supplied either Over the Air or using the USB method already used. When I have more details I'll let you know.
Guest SirGaz Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 This is not really telling us anything more than we already knew. We knew there would be other updates (obviously), the only ways to update are via either Orange Update or the cradle and as for timescales... The original update was supposed to be in december and we got it at the end of Feb. Try getting some worthwhile info before posting again. (rant mode off)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 So will the next update be an O/HTC or MS one? Wonder if O will ship a J2ME runtime (they were allegedly testing a couple a while back!)? Shipping the neoprene keyboards would be good too, as would providing everyone's favourite Site Admin with a review unit :) P
Guest Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 SirGaz, look at how many posts Wirefree90 has made. 18. He's a newbie to the forum, so think before you engage "rant mode". We can't all be instant experts.
Guest wirefree90 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 er, I wasn't speculating I was stating a fact. with regards to a j2me client, I've used one an SPV and the performance isn't currently acceptable, one should be available later in the year.
Guest wirefree90 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Paul, in answer to your other questions, I haven't seen a keyboard yet, but they do exist and when I get one I'll let you know :) with regards to the update, their should be fixes from both MS and HTC.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Shame, but I'd definitely rather O hurried the keyboards thru than anything else! On a slightly different note, I've recently acquired an XDA, and BOY, does it make me realise how lucky we are to have keypads on our SmartPhones at all, stylus input sucks... T9 rocks! :) P PS Wirefree90 the newbie. Ha ha ha ha ha ;)
Guest strathclydezero Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Wirefree - any clues on what these fixes fix?
Guest able Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 "]On a slightly different note, I've recently acquired an XDA, and BOY, does it make me realise how lucky we are to have keypads on our SmartPhones at all, stylus input sucks... T9 rocks! :) Paul the XDA should also have Microsoft style T9... tap taping is okay once you get used to it...pockpc.gif
Guest BAMN Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 paul do you and wirefree know eachother maybe???
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 If you click on wirefree to see his user and then you click on show all posts by this user you may get some insight into what sort of user he is.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Maybe :) able: What is that screenshots meant to be of? That's just an onscreen keyboard yeah? P
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I think able's screen shot is showing a keyboard where he's typed 'thi' and it's suggesting the word thinking... this is a good speed up for stylus keyboard entry but it's not t9, it's in fact autocomplete... Quite a different story.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 So what sort of user is wirefree then spacemonkey? P
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Well, skimming his comments I'd say he has been a member of this board for quite a while and chosen not to post too much. All of his comments tend to be quite knowledgeable and accurate, so I'd say he has connections, specifically at orange. He also talks about items that aren't generally available to the public so he must have access to these items through semi-official channels. So I'd categorise him into knowledgeable users who I'm inclined to read the posts of.
Guest able Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 correct tap tap! true it is autocomplete, my mistake. only a few more days until i get my loan p800 from orange :)
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I would say he really likes the SENTRYGUN!
Guest Playdoh Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 I saw and played with the keyboard last week. Very impressive and requires a surprisingly light touch on the keys. Looking forward to seeing it in stores :)
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Hmmmm... Apart from the picture of someone wearing an Orange sweater in the office posted on the gatekeeper web site, cutting back the URL to www.umtstrial.co.uk kinda gives you a clue as to wirefree90's identify... not that the domain didn't in the first place. I think everyone on here should hate him tho cos he's obviously getting to do stuff that is far too cool!!!
Guest wirefree90 Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Bum, time to change my email address.
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Heh, I think you meant Web site but it certainly didn't take you long to get rid of it! ;-) Now why would you want to remain annonymous?? Go on, tell us how the Orange UK UMTS trials have done - I'm interested at least! Did Orange participate in the Manx Telecom UMTS trials? How did they go? I've only heard bits and pieces coming out of that...
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Actually, thinking about it... Orange and H3G, isn't it all the same really?? Apart from being seperately marketed businesses...
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Sentrygun ???? Your player stats...... I bet you don't mind going to work in the mornin!
