Guest neilfenstein Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Can you stop your contract at any time with orange care? I went to carphone whorehouse cos in the full insurance you get TFG Total Freedom Garuntee!(can never remember how to spell it) For £35 i can stop my contract dead. if you can do this with orange care then i will cancel and swap. Also, what do you all think will be the policy for replacement when the Tanager comes out. Will we be given them as replacements for our SPV's? :?
Guest Firaas Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Yep you're not under any annual or four-month contract with Orange Care... The Tanager will be used to replace broken SPVs where the SPV is not in stock.
Guest Jeeves Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 ive never really understood the exactly what orange care means (and i'm not on it at the mo). obviously if i loose my phone its my responsibility, but say if it gets damaged through regular use (e.g. a ton of dust under the screen) or fails to work properly don't orange have to replace it on the grounds that it has not lasted as long as expected? replacement with a tanager one the inventory runs out sounds interesting, but surely you'll be waiting 4 ever if they've only sold 40,000 out of 200,000 (and sales will ceratinly drop with SPVx). Doesn't really sound like it will work :) am i missing something?
Guest Firaas Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Orange Care guarantees a replacement. If something goes wrong and you don't have Care, Orange can offer to repair it - which I hear is quoted as taking upto six weeks...
Guest squall Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 in O care t&c it says your contract is for one year, or until you cancel your oragne phone contract. ian
Guest one.ear Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 If you cancel your contract then the care will cancel also, the Care charge shouldnt be included in any settlement figure for cancellation. Ben
Guest pete1312 Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 ... Garuntee!(can never remember how to spell it) :? Guarantee
Guest Yu_ Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 If you lose your phone and you report it to the cops and Orange within 24 hours you are coverd and will get a replacment (depending on how you lost it) it will not cover you for "cosmetic" damege (i.e. dust under the screen) and it will cover you if you damege it depending again on how it was dameged, it's all down to "Due care and atention" if you drop it in a bar your not coverd if you lose it becuse it fell out of you case and you retraced your steps and reported it right away, you probably will be coverd.
Guest adam Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Well if they'll give Tanagers away to replace SPVs, I think there'll be a few broken SPVs soon!!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 it will not cover you for "cosmetic" damege (i.e. dust under the screen) Interesting as some people have managed to get a replacement as dust under the screen is a known mechanical fault, due to a poor build quality with that particular handset. PS no need to dig up really old posts :)
Guest Yu_ Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 just noticed it sorry :) As to Differant model replacments LOL don't hold your breath, becuse it's not going to happen at this point there are more than enough SPV's to go around. The replacments for dust I guess are down to indavidual Op's and there judgment, thats one of the problems with Care, it very much depends on who you get on the other end of the phone.
Guest Gorskar Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I imagine that when dust gets under the screen its a fairly easy fix for them, seeing as some of us have fixed it, and not many of us are qualified phone repairpeople. So they just take your dusty one, and give you back another one which they already cleaned the dust from.
Guest simon.haffenden Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 i dropped my spv and smashed the screen, my orange care replaced the phone same day, they are excelent fast and professional. the service is much better than any of the other insurance services
Guest Yu_ Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Oh sure it’s easy to fix but it costs a great deal of money to do so, ok it might take the guy doing in about 5 minuets, but that’s not the problem, they have to pay for a courier to pick up a clean phone from the depot and get it to you within 24 hours, which to be honest isn’t cheap. That’s the real cost issue. If you had a walk in repair center near you could get it done in ten minuets and keep your old phone meaning you don’t have to re install everything, ext. but that’s not how it works. A scratch on your screen or a little bit of dust doesn’t affect the functionality of the handset, it still works so you wouldn’t get a replacement 9 times out of 10. If you had so much dust under the screen that you couldn’t see anything that might be different, it’s more than cosmetic it affects yo9ur ability to use the phone, the next question is how did the dust get there… if there’s a problem with the seal then sure a replacement is in order, if you sucked it up the vacuum you might fine that your not covered. (that said you would be on the first occasion because you have got cover for some accidental damage as well, if you leave your phone on the top of your car and drive away they will send you a replacement, ONCE do it again and you will find the due care and attention bit comes up and you get nothing.) It’s never been an issue of how long it takes to fix a fault it’s a case of how much it costs.
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 Two points. If you DON'T have Care, and discover you need it - your phone just got stolen/broken, you can pay £50 and backdate the cover to the day before you lost it. BUT you ARE then tied to a minimum of a year's contract with Care. (But it's still a good deal!) Care is kind of quirky in what's covered and what's not. "I went out for lunch, went to wash my hands, left it in the loo, and when I went back ten minutes later, it was gone." Is it covered? Depends. If your lunch was in a pub', then it's not. If it was in a restaurant... it IS covered. A restaurant ATTACHED to a pub? Not covered. So, if you're making a claim, be sure NOT to include the word "pub".
Guest one.ear Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 you can pay £50 Thought Emergency Care was now £70 ? Ben
Guest tommo8845 Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 You can get a replacement if lost in a pub, which i've done a couple of times :) . Just report to the police, ring round the pubs etc. and you should have a new SPV winging it's way to you.
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 "You can get a replacement if lost in a pub, which i've done a couple of times . Just because it's not COVERED doesn't neccessarily mean they won't give you a new phone. Yes, I know it makes little sense - but all Orange recruits spent half a day learing about this stuff as part of their training - including the unofficical information that what's covered and not covered, in reality, has little or nothing to do with whether you get a replacement. As often as not, you get one as a "goodwill gesture".
