Guest vampyre69 Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 This is not a plug for my site... If you look at the ringtones section of it... http://www.allspv.co.uk/ringtones.html ...and download one you will notice they are near CD quality but most are nearly a meg+ in size!!! I used quicktime on a mac to export them to .wav. What are the best compression settings? is there an app that can do it with little loss of quality. I noticed that even though some of these sound crackly on pc on the spv the crackly noise is almost unheard! Any ideas. I can use a PC or MAC if this helps. I need to get these files much smaller as I am running out of webspace very fast. Thanks in advance for your help.
Guest Richie M Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 You really should of done a search, but as i downloaded 2 tones off your site  i'll tell you what i done cos i found that they were a bit big for the SPV. REALLY SIMPLE. Open the .wav in "Sound Recorder" (comes with most Windows (ProgramesAccesoriesEntertainment)) then do "Save As" at the bottom it shows "Format" with a "Change" button, click that. then change the setting to 8.000 Khz, 8-bit Mono. Then save. Using this method i got your "For an Angel.wav" down from 1,728 Kb to 216 Kb :!: :)

Guest jhew Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Try this app called wav compressor, I find it very handy. Compresses the .wav files right down. Quality is dependant on the output setting that u choose, but it has plenty of choices, so it's easy to find a compromise. Download here
Guest HelloDave Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Quality is dependant on the output setting that u chooseDon't forget the SPV can only use PCM (uncompressed) wavs (or GSM 6.10 compressed but can't really recommend it) . I find sound recorder is as good as anything, and lets you choose exactly the sample rate and bitrate that you want, without having to rely on presets. I used quicktime on a mac to export them to .wav. Quicktime - ugh! Poor you! Ooh - my 500th post; i'm scared! :)
