Guest a7awo Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 I have accidently set up a partnership on my PC for the SPV and it asked me what name do I want to give to the partnership, so by accident I named it incorrectly and now I can't change it. I've uninstalled ActiveSync, I've deleted partnerships, etc. but it never asks me for the name again but when it syncs it comes up with the old name ... it must be set in the SPV and not on the PC. How can I change this? Many thanks. Billy
Guest Gorskar Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Well one way is to hard reset the spv (this is where you hold down the record button when powering on the spv, and then delete the IPSM info after entering the bootloader, as explained in the guide to decerting your phone. Of course if you are going to do this much you may as well decert the phone as well, and be able to use some cool apps on your phone like doom or a gameboy emulator) There may be an easier way, possibly using all-explorer, but Im not sure about that.
Guest Gorskar Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Be aware that a hard reset will reset your phone to factory settings however, so make sure you backup your contacts etc etc before trying it.
Guest PhMajerus Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 (...) it must be set in the SPV and not on the PC. How can I change this? Billy I didn't find any end-user setting to change the name of the Smartphone, if you have access to the phone's registry you can change the name in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEIdentName
Guest yatpeak Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 You could try disconnecting all devices, deleting the partnership through activesync, and then syncing them and renaming it. Wyatt
Guest yatpeak Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Sorry, didn't finish reading your post. My one just asked me for a name each time I set up a connection. I think that you'll have to perform a hard reset. Just make sure everything's backed up first! Wyatt
Guest Richie M Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Wyatt, i feel a bit "stoopid" asking this, how do you Delete Partnerships? I never been able to do this.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Remove the phone from the cradle and on activsync go to file, there will be an option highlighted called Delete partnership, just click on it and that's it :)
Guest Richie M Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Thanks m8, so glad this thread was started in "Newbie" section :)
Guest a7awo Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Thanks for your responses .... As I have no way of accessing the Reg as yet and I'm not to keen on hard resetting, I have done the following which has worked. I have 1 SPV and 1 PDA ... with the PDA you can change the Device name, so knowing this I deleted ALL partnerships from activesync and changed the PDA device name to the device name of the SPV. Then I created a new partnership for the PDA and as it knows nout about this device name it can see no reason to ask me to assign a new one as it does sometimes. I then created a new partnership for the SPV and as it has the same device name as the PDA, it now asks me for a new name because this one is already being used ... hey presto we can now change the device name of the SPV, I then assigned the correct device name for the SPV and created the partnership as desired then I deleted the PDA partnership and renamed the PDA device name and created a new partnership for the PDA. All done. Thanks again for the response ... If I had a regeditor I presume this would have been easier. Billy
