Problems applying UK update using Thruks FR workaround W98SE

I have been trying to apply the UK update on a Win98SE PC, following the FR workaround. It seems to work fine to the point where it displays the confirmation that it is about to upgrade the ROM from 1.16 to 1.35.

then the next screen appears which says that it is veryfying information with the SPV and sits there like a stuffed dummy.

I have tried rebooting both PC and Phone and trying again, but this has not worked.

Any ideas or help very much appreciated!!
