Guest benjymous Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 and probably expensive if I keep it up I've just set up windows media encoder on my PC to broadcast the sound of winamp, so that I can connect to it on media player on my phone Glorious 11kbps audio, travelling hundreds of miles to get from my computer to my phone that's 2 feet away :)
Guest modfather Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 lol... how about you wire up two small speakers to your spv... and i reckon u should get a bit of lag, poss 25ms??? then u could set up a dolby surround system in tandem with ur pc speakers. but then again...

After it's buffered during encoding, and buffered again on the phone, there's about a 50 second lag between the PC's audio and the phone playing it :) However, I've found that if I use the USB network connection instead, I can play high quality sound quite happily. Not that it's much use, as I still have to be in the same room to listen, but still quite a good demo of the technology (it sounds really good on headphones, too)
Guest simonastro Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 can't seem to get streaming audio can u recommend an url? cheers
Guest HelloDave Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 It's pointless but still strangely cool! A while ago I thought of linking up the TV card in my PC to Windows Media Encoder and broadcasting that to my phone so that I could effectively get TV anywhere, perhaps changing channels via e-mail or something, but with the current speed and cost of GPRS it isn't even slightly practical! (and rather pointless I know, but haven't you ever done something just becuase you can?!) Maybe if I ever get 3G...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Slightly OT, but has everyone seen the 3G adverts on telly recently, looks as good as it sounds :)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I do this (PC to PC) by using my TV tuner card as a video source for Netmeeting. The picture/sound quality is really quite good and it is a helluva lot easier than messing around with Media Encoder... So, perhaps tangentially on-topic only, but perhaps a Netmeeting client for the SPV might be a Good Thing?
Guest kingdom master Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 ekk ur gprs tariff is goner love you:-) regards kingdom
Guest HelloDave Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Nice small avatar you've got there
Guest fraser Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Is it possible to stream mp3s in the same way? My webserver runs Linux not Windows, I've already gotten streaming mp3 to broadband/LAN PCs running fine. I was wanting to install a re-encoder (to get the bitrate down to something GPRS can handle) but I couldn't get any mp3 streams to play at all (even over USB) so I never bothered following through...
Guest HelloDave Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Windows Media Player on the SPV only accepts windows media streams I think, so you'd need a different app.
