Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Simple one this... 'Should the new 'Articles' section be restricted to registered visitors?' YOU DECIDE! :) P
Guest akarno Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I have voted yes. I wanted to give the reason. I often want information on a variety of different subjects. Forums around the net are often the best place. However, I am not keen on registering on dozens of forums. There is nothing more frustrating than nearly finding the information you want but then having to register, with all that involves to get what you want. The whole point of the internet is that the information is there for everyone. Sure if you want to post something you should be registered, but not for viewing. EDIT - I am confused now. I voted yes, as in "]'Should the new 'Articles' section be readable by unregistered visitors?' But maybe I should have voted NO as in no, "]Restrict the new 'Articles' section?
Guest PsychoDave Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I've voted for yes but i think it should just apply to posting now I think about it. Everybody should be able to read it doncha think???
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Here's my reasoning for thinking it SHOULD be restricted. We have about 3000 registered members, and we have probably another 9000 regular visitors who are not registered. Our membership translates directly to influence with operators, MS, software companies etc. etc. Put simply, the more members we have, the more people will listen to our voice - people power and all that :) P
Guest PsychoDave Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Well when you put it like that...............Ok. Mo' Power to ya
Guest akarno Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I think its got a little confused. Paul, can we start the vote again with the question and you comment resulting in the same choice. :) . As for your reasons, I agree with the influence argument. I just think, based on the way I use other forums, you will lose a large chunk of the 9000. As a result you will lose influence that way.
Guest akarno Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 "]I've reworded the question... P Thanks, can I vote again? :)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 You should be able to re-do your vote now akarno? P
Guest Arisme Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Would be no for me - I think that direct links are useful sometimes (see slashdot ) and this way more people will be able to appreciate the quality of the articles then register later to express their thoughts - always better to let people choose in my opinion
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I voted yes, but under the condition that 1: Its used as an archive, eg. threads are "filed" there after x number of days to get around Arisme's comments. 2: There are ~more~ incentives to register put up for grabs (otherwise you end up with 10,000 registered non-posting users. Anyone ever hear about the watercooling cock-up that got a forum 100's of 1000's of users in
