Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 My digital camera is being a bit crap today (or maybe it's just me), but you'll get the idea! Ptanager2.jpgtanager1.jpgtanager3.jpg
Guest Thurstan Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 My mate's SPV - it's a week old - looks like that compared to mine.....
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 My screen is on par for an SPV... P
Guest mike-oh Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 My god, is there a good gadget out there that you don't own paul?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Note the TiVo remote in the corner of the big pic... The TiVo's one of my favourite gadgets, especially as it's upgraded and networked :) Can you tell I'm a gadget freak? P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Or how about the XBox running Debian Linux and Apache - I use it to test forum releases on - It has a fully working MySQL, and holds the database backup for the forum :) P
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 so is there any difference other than the fact it is brighter?
Guest mike-oh Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Stop i'm turning vivid green with livid envy!!! (wipes drool off chin)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Brighter, a lot crisper, more defined colours etc. etc. You can play doom on it and see everything no problem :) P
Guest Carnivor Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 "]Note the TiVo remote in the corner of the big pic... The TiVo's one of my favourite gadgets, especially as it's upgraded and networked :) Can you tell I'm a gadget freak? P Heh, I notice the scrabble box on the table aswell, wtf is that all about??!!?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 I knew someone would spot that... Yes, the wife and I played Scrabble yesterday :) P
Guest Flash Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Well, IMHO the Tanager might be (apparently) the better phone, but the SPV sure looks the better of the two. The Tanager looks more like it belongs in a handbag! :) That's it - O have brought out the first 'his & hers' phone. ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 One other thing I forgot to mention is how much easier the screen is to see in direct sunlight - not entirely sure why, but it is :) P
Guest vijay555 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Flash - "Tanager - ribbed for her pleasure" Paul, is it noticably larger to use? spv is already a nokia-and-a-half... it looks about a cm taller.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 No, in fact it feels smaller because I think it's slightly thinner. P
Guest casper508 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Paul from the pics it seems to me that the actual screen on the Tanager is slightly closer to the front cover that the SPV. Is this true? Cas
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Well, the shape is totally different, but yes, the 'glass' is right on top of the screen. This helps the image of course :) P
Guest neilfenstein Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I notice you said 'glass' Im mightily pissed off that what i thought was some sort of strong scratch resistant cover on my spv was actually thin plastic. Does the tanager have a more substactial cover for the screen? My poor SPV looks like the only games i play on it are one envolving pavements and the screen! (SPVBoarding!)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Don't think so... :) P Does the tanager have a more substactial cover for the screen?
Guest blackout Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 differences i've noticed on the tanager: 1. the screen produces much better color. in part this is true on all newer smartphone builds, including the new orange update. 2. the screen is defintely easier to read under various lighting conditions. i don't know that this is because of a brighter backlight, but for whatever reason it's true 3. it *feels* faster, but i can't prove that it actually *is* faster. 4. it's about 100 times easier to text. the keys are bigger, flatter, and well spaced. i barely need to look @ the keypad. 5. the battery life is about 10% better, maybe more. 6. it's slightly wider and taller (barely wider) but flatter. it fits in the pocket just as easy and feels much more solid in your hand. that's just what i can think of off the top of my head.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 1. the screen produces much better color. in part this is true on all newer smartphone builds, including the new orange update. Not noticed this on the update! The screen produces much better colour, because it is a different type of screen! 2. the screen is defintely easier to read under various lighting conditions. i don't know that this is because of a brighter backlight, but for whatever reason it's true See above 3. it *feels* faster, but i can't prove that it actually *is* faster.Doesn't feel faster to me, cos it's not :) 4. it's about 100 times easier to text. the keys are bigger, flatter, and well spaced. i barely need to look @ the keypad. Agreed. 5. the battery life is about 10% better, maybe more.Battery is exactly the same capacity and technology, and s/w is the same. Battery manufacturer is different. 6. it's slightly wider and taller (barely wider) but flatter. it fits in the pocket just as easy and feels much more solid in your hand. Yeah. P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Nah, gonna get an iPod I think. P PS You need to fix your sig ICY :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 My mate has one of them, sweeeet piece of kit. It has like a laptop touchpad to navigate menus, very cool....
