Guest Thurstan Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Is there any way of stopping that annoying, loud 'clunk' sound when you select the 'To' option when creating a new SMS/email? Sure I saw a post somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 If you turn the volume down it doesn't do it. Strange, but true! :-| P
Guest Thurstan Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Which volume - of the speaker? Then I'd forget and leave it like that and wouldn't be able to hear a thing! So that's the only solution then? D'oh! *In Chuckles the monkey voice: I hate that clunk...*
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Yep, the speaker volume. Maybe in the next update... P
Guest madu Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 There is a possibility to modify registry and get rid of these bleeps. Have a look here for more info: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3068
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Is there any way of stopping that annoying, loud 'clunk' sound when you select the 'To' option when creating a new SMS/email? Not a solution, as such, but a workaround. Use Menu -> Add to. No "doink" sound then.
Guest Thurstan Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Okay, so I've found that sound in: HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSounds The keys which point to it are: SystemDefault Toolkit The sound itself is called Default.wav and is in Windows So I created an empty .wav and changed the key's value under 'Sound' to ISPMApplication DataSoundsEmpty.wav and placed the file in there. No joy Then I changed the value under 'Category' to Notification. After that I altered the 'Directory' value under HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundCategoriesNotification from Windows to ISPMApplication DataSounds Still no joy... any ideas?
Guest Thurstan Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Not a solution, as such, but a workaround. Use Menu -> Add to. No "doink" sound then. Cheers for the pointer Chris, but I'll always forget to do it that way!
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Cheers for the pointer Chris, but I'll always forget to do it that way! Aye, know what you mean. Waay to long-winded.
Guest the.dude Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 1 - Click the Power button for the Quick List 2 - Highlight the Profile that you want to change (ie Loud/Normal/Silent etc) 3 - Click Menu 4 - Edit 5 - Set 'system sound volume' as required: (Off/1/2/3/4/Loud) I have turned mine to Off and this has done the trick nicely. You will need to change this setting for all Profiles ( - 2) where you want to disable the click noises. I hope this helps. PS - does anyone know how the Speakerphone profile works ? When I highlight mine, it does not allow me to select it.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 It will only work when you are in a call by holding the take call button down. This has been covered over and over, the search feature is very useful ;p Nice tip btw, testing it now... Edit- only works for the menu sounds, not the "thlunk" unfortunately...
Guest Bazz Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 That doesn't help - this clunk seems to ignore the system sound volume setting. Try it. And to use the speakerphone you hold the green call key down during a call. You cannot start in speaker phone. You must make a call first and change to it.
Guest the.dude Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Right - now I have figured out why you are still getting the clunk. When you message Add to: and press the action key = Clunk! Add to: menu/add to + action key = No Clunk!
Guest madu Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Thurstan, have you tried restarting the phone after making modifications to registry?
Guest Thurstan Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Yeah tried that - had the same thought yesterday afternoon but it doesn't work. I've restored all the defaults now just in case... there must be some small thing I'm missing. Oh well, I'm happy enough with Chris b.a.r.f's workaround for now! Cheers anyway mad
Guest nickcornaglia Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 can I ask a question from a noobie. If I overwrite the Default.wav file in the Main Windows directory...the sound is switched to my new wav. When I turn off/on my phone it is reset. :?: Why would the phone overwrite this file on an on/off cycle. :?: What other files are reset during this cycle? :?: Where is the original file kept that allows it gets reset to? Is it in ROM? :?: Why was I "temporarily" able to fix it?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 The WindowsCE ROM image is re-written to Windows each reboot, presumabley to ensure the OS files integrety is kept. There is no way to permanently edit or change any files in this folder. There are workarounds for some sounds though by changing the file location in the registry. See midnights tweaks site for more information.
Guest rhaleuk Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by this. I didnt post it because I thought it was alittle petty, but good to see I'm not alone. It just sounds too much like an error noise to me... and why must it be 3X the volume of any other system noise! One day the SPV will be perfect I'm sure ;)
Guest crafty Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 The best solution i've found is to use Planus SMS - cheaper messages and no clunking sound!
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted May 4, 2003 Report Posted May 4, 2003 Yeah amen to Orneta Notepad *hehe* .. at least it has a char counter!
