Guest joelj Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Hi Folks. Initially, I couldn't browse WAP pages like the Orange portal. I've spoken to Orange about this, but the settings they gave me weren't great: they left me able to browse either, but only if I changed the Connections -> Select network options in IE from WAP Network -> The Internet. This also cuts me off MSN messenger when I browse WAP pages. I'd like to be able to get IE to browse normal web pages and WAP pages (including the Orange WAP portal) without causing it to drop the GRPS connection when going from one t'other. Is this possible? Or is there a Select Network -> "WAP Network" setting that will let me get at the rest of the internet too? I now find myself unable to browse WAP pages at all. Certainly none that start WSP: - although I've been able to access a couple that start HTTP:. Incidentally, there is an interesting, if worrying, footnote on the Orange SPV site (on the page that has the list of WAP sites), that says something like "please note, it is sometimes difficult to access WAP pages from HTML browsers". So... Does anyone have working settings they can let me have for: Settings -> Data Connections Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> GPRS Connections Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> Dial Up Connections Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> Proxy Connections Settings -> Data Connections -> Options IE -> Menu -> Options -> Connections Including the correct DNS settings, WAP proxy settings, GPRS endpoints, Connects To: and Connects From etc etc. Finally, does anyone have a working set up with a VPN dialing into their corporate lan? If so, how did you get it to resolve names at that end? And do you have to set IE to use "My Corporate Network". Many thanks, joel
Guest Flopsy Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 This may or may not solve your problem. With these settings, I am able to go from HTML to WAP sites freely, but it appears the G logo on the signal strength drops and then re-starts momentarily, so you might lose your Messenger connection. ---------- In Internet Explorer -> Options -> Connections, leave it on The Internet. In Settings -> Data Connections have the following: Internet Connection: Orange GPRS Work Connection: Automatic WAP Connection: Orange WAP Secure WAP Connection: None available Don't do anything to Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> Dial Up Connections or VPN Connections In Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> Proxy Connections you should have just one entry: Orange WAP Proxy Connects From: The Internet Connects to: WAP Network Proxy: 192.168.71.35 Type: WAP User Name: Password: In Settings -> Data Connections -> Edit Connections -> GPRS Connections you have three entries: Orange GPRS Connects To: The Internet Access Point: orangeinternet User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 158.43.192.10 Secondary DNS: 158.43.128.10 IP Address: Orange MMS I didn't touch this Orange WAP Connects To: The Internet Access point: orangewap User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: And I also needed to add the favourite wsp://wap.orange-today.co.uk/ to my IE favourites list as it wasn't there on my phone. --------- Try that! I am assuming the brief drop and re-connect I see is due to the Data Connection switching from Orange GPRS to Orange WAP (even though both are actually GPRS connections), so maybe it is possible to get the proxy alone working over the standard GPRS Internet access, but I don't see how yet. One thing I have noticed is to ALWAYS use Done to exit settings menus - if you just hit home, it seems to have uncertain results. The only bit of the above I don't follow 100% is the Proxy - how is that tied to WAP access and not just generally to GPRS? I would have thought the above should work if you selected Orange GPRS for the WAP connection in Settings -> Data Connections (as it tells you to do in the Getting started book) except it just doesn't. Hope that helps you and any others. Now my next conquest of the world is to see if I can get CSD connections going... Ralph.
Guest Usman Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 CSD is only for dial up. See the WAP proxy setttings thread in the main forum. Hope it helps
Guest Fulkrum Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Ill bang a set up and user guide on tomorrow
Guest joelj Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 This may or may not solve your problem. Thanks flopsy. First indications are that it has indeed solved my problem. I'll try a more thorough test on the train on't way home. joel
Guest timodonnell Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 The DNS settings 156 just gave me are NOT THE SAME as the ones posted above - according to 156 the final ".10" should be ".1" for both (and I queried the difference with the nice lady on the phone) I must add that my GPRS internet access still isnt working but they suspect that it may not be anabled yet (even though it's about 20 hours since I requested it) - it also appears all Orange's systems are down at the moment so they can't check Tim
Guest Rob.P Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 The GPRS settings above are the same as the ones I got of 156 so I don't think it matters much whether it's a 10 or a 1.
Guest timodonnell Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 Cool - one less thing for me to get wrong ;-) As a point of comparison - how long did it take other people's GPRS to be fully active? I can MMS, have a 'G' on my screen, but no internet/update/backup access, Tim
Guest hotphil Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 My GPRS SIM update arrived whilst I was still on the phone to the nice lady at 156 to request it. A quick reset and I was away. Phil
Guest TZed9 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 The correct Dns for the APn of orangeinternet are: 158.43.192.1 158.43.128.1 Additionally, the Wap GPRS connection will need IP of 192.168.71.35 and sometimes user/pass Orange/Multimedia (case sensetive) Trust me
