Problems with USB and Activesync since updating

Hi,

Upgraded my phone last week, went to sync it in work today for the first time since then (W2K machine) and it won't connect, Checked the USB properties and I see

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Tried to reinstal drivers, it does a search and says it's found a closer match to the driver already installed,

c:winntinfusb.inf

so I click ok and it comes up with the following

An error occured during the installation of the device.

The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance.

Anybody got any ideas on what is going on here?

Oh one more point, I also run a USB external hard drive which is working fine on the same machine, so I can assume the problem is with the phone and not the PC.
