I am trying to find the best settings for pocket div x, i've searched for ages and have only found the settings that were posted on a french forum, and a few others. Those settings are quite jumpy and not as good as the matrix trailer div x which is very smooth. Anyone got any better settings ?

if it's STILL choppy set it to letterbox and adjust to taste (serving suggestion)

Thats got it. Still not as good as your matrix trailer though. Could it be something about the settings of the input video :?:

Decimate by 2 or 3 (not a huge amount of difference) under video settings, and set the bicubic to a=-1.00 under the resize filter...

set the bicubic to a=-1.00

What on earth does that do?

Speaking of DivX, who is a leftie and who is a righty? :) I mean in terms of rotating the phone...everyone seems to prefer rotating the phone by 90 degrees clockwise, but I find that anti-clockwise is best. The headphone cable comes out the top in that way, and you can actually sit the SPV on it's side, if the table is slightly sloped.

Plus, with the new rotate option in the recent DivX player (key 0), you can put the video into normal portrait mode, but it defaults to the side.

I prefer anti clockwise to. And for the bicubic thingy i don't have a clue what it does but it seems to make the video a bit better.

I think its to do with how it reassigns pixels after say a 1x1 area is shrunk...

I'm not sure exactly how a bicubic resize works but it's a more "intelligent" algorithm than the simple pixel resize. The simple resize just throws away all the pixels it doesn't need in an image; leading to jagged edges, artefacts etc, where as the more complex algorithms are slower, but I think they actually analyse the picture, trying to detect edges and the best pixels to remove, blending pixels together etc (which incidentally should improve compression since codecs like DiVX don't like sharp edges).

"A detective series based in Norwich called ‘Swallow’. Swallow is a detective who tackles vandalism. Bit of a maverick, not afraid to break the law if he thinks it’s necessary. He’s not a criminal, but he will, perhaps, travel 80mph on the motorway if he, for example, he wants to get somewhere quickly…"

If I set it to be 12 fps then it is very jumpy ?

how do i rotate it!?

I couldnt see the option in the DivX 5.03 settings!

You have to apply a "rotate" filter to rotate it ;p

Hi guys, i've been reading up on Divx encoding and ripping etc and found out that Bicubic should only be used when you are enlarging the image, when reducing the image (which we will be doing 99.9% of the time) you should use Bilinear.

Also the number you Decimate by depends on the frame rate of the source file (NTSC or PAL), basically by 2 removes every other frame and by 3 removes every 3rd frame.

I'll post again when i find the article again

Good call on the decimate info, Richie. I assumed (I don't think I'm alone) that "by 2" would only keep every 2nd frame, while "by 3" would keep every 3rd frame.

That is, "by 2" halfs the frame rate, while "by 3" thirds it. Now I know I'm completely wrong and "by 2" actually results in a lower framerate!

Which should you use for PAL and NTSC?

fraser is correct, if you dont believe me check out the frame rates decimate by 3 gives you 1/3rd of the original frame rate and decimate by 2 gives you 1/2 the original frame rate.

Yeah i was just trying to check but i cant find the page i found ;)

Fraser is correct, i got confused, sorry.

I am write about bicubic tho :)

Wait wait wait...I was saying that what I originally thought was wrong! :? So, "decimate by 3" actually does yeild 1/3 the framerate, yes?
