Guest jeffmohd Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 hi, need help please. i m using O2 on my spv. i can't get connected to the net and send mms messages. what are the settings? i can't change connection type. default is orange mms and can even add a new connections. thanks
Guest omar_g Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 You have the settings for GPRS "MobileWEB" which is different to GPRS "WAP" access. The reason it doesn't work is that access to the "MobileWEB" access point is barred unless you specifically request it, or are a business customer. Use the settings you had above but change the following: APN: wap.o2.co.uk User name: o2wap I.P.: 193.113.200.195 Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.uk Leave the DNS settings blank if the SPV lets you. If you want MobileWEB access you will have to forfit MMS. The O2 system cannot handle both together at the moment. This will be rectified by the end of the week. Request MobileWEB via email ([email protected]) and then use the settings you had above but change the user name to o2web and the APN (access point name) to mobile.o2.co.uk This will allow Web access but it is charged independantly of your bundled GPRS data at £3 per mb Finally, for MMS you have the correct settings, but the O2 mms service is very tempremental. Use NowMMS for free xnetwork MMS and email using your inclusive WAP data. www.nowmms.com Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Omar
Guest apb075 Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Ok, so I'm no rocket scientist, but working a mobile phone has never been an issue......until now! I'm only really interested in the mms service, but could some one please explain (as you would to a small child or possibly even pet) how to get my unlocked spv to send mms msgs. on O2. Thanks for any help given. Alistair.
Guest apb075 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I've been trying to setup my spv to use mms and wap internet by following the details supplied in this forum however have been unable to configure my handset correctly. I have a gprs mms enabled wap account and would like to use mms and the best possible internet/wap service available without paying any large gprs download fees. I have a G symbol on my phone, and yet connection always fails. My current settings are: Connects to: Internet Access point: wap.o2.co.uk Username: o2wap password: password Primary/secondary DNS: n/a IP address 193.113.200.195 Port 9201 Mmsc Address: http://mms.now.uk/username=password (username and password both being my own) Thank you for any help you can offer. Alistair Burns ([email protected])
Guest omar_g Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Alistair, I've sent you this as a PM but for the benifit of anyone else having similar problems with MMS or GPRS on O2 i've also posted it here. ______________________________ You have the correct settings for NowMMS so it *should* work. My only thoughts are: A) When did you request that O2 enabled MMS/GPRS on your sim card? If it was between the 5th November and the 17th (or there abouts) of Feb. you may need to request that your sim be provisioned again. 90% of new provisions made during this time failed due to an administration system error. The O2 staff were not aware of the problem. :) Does GPRS wap access work using your sim in any other handset? If you have not tried this would be a good idea. C) Can you access WAP using your O2 sim in the SPV? (Make sure you have the correct homepage set up: http://wap.o2.co.uk) If wap over GPRS works then NowMMS is simply down for maintainence (happens about twice a week, it just stops working). If your request for MMS falls between the dates mentioned it may be worth getting it re-enabled by the O2 technical support department, who can be contacted on 08705214000) Let me know how you get on.
Guest apb075 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 I'm affraid still no joy (which is irritating, as i did manage to send a mms when i first set up the handset, tried to sort out my wap, and now nothing works!). However, I've just noticed that when i re-enter the edit connections menu, and then enter the profile I am wanting to edit ie. O2 GPRS Wap on my handset, the password I typed has been replaced/added to, to give a 16 digit number/word. Obviously I can't see what this is, as it's all just asterixs. I've played around a bit, and have found that this has reset itself every time i leave then re-enter the menu. This occurs every time unless I leave that section blank. Could this have anything to do with it, or this a standard thing? Also are there any related settings that may be configured wrong, ie my internet explorer is set to detect automatically, and connect to the internet. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 However, I've just noticed that when i re-enter the edit connections .... the password I typed has been replaced/added to, to give a 16 digit number/word. The phone does this to hide how many digits there are in the password. It's normal, and the password entered has not changed.
Guest apb075 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Oh right, well at least that's not it. I'm really confused now. I think I'm just going to have to have my bank account violated and ring the o2 help line, although knowing them they probably deactivated my gprs themselves by mistake.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Have you tried the settings in "What Mobile" Magazine? They seem to work on Vodafone! http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...hlight=magazine
Guest apb075 Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Yeah, I tried those, I'm pretty confused because I managed to send 2 MMS messages when i first setup all the settings, i then played around with the internet settings, and now nothing. I've tried calling o2 to see if they have changed anything but they wont answer the phone!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Judging from the magazine, O2 MMS is down at the mo. Is the rest working?
Guest apb075 Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Making Calls and sending standard texts is all fine, it's just anything wap/gprs based that's not working. O2 say that everything is setup fine on my account with them, and are apparently going to email me a complete settings list any time now, so I shall see if that says anything interesting! (if it arrives!)
Guest apb075 Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Right, o2 were as usefull as ever, they gave me the setting that i already have. I've tried various combinations and get a selection of error messages "unable to place call" "check signal and retry" "unable to login in, contact your service provider to confirm details" or plain old "Faild to send message!" I think I'm going to go insane!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 These the settings we're talking about? Dial-Up Connections : GSM CSD internet access Connects to : "The Internet" Country code : "44" Area code : "9" Phone Number : "15000" Username : "o2wap" Password : "password" Domain : blank GPRS Connections : GPRS Internet Access Connects to : "The Internet" Access Point : "mobile.O2.co.uk" Username : "username" Password : "password" Primary DNS : "193.113.200.200" Secondary DNS : "193.113.200.201" IP address : blank
Guest apb075 Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Not exactly, I'm currently using the setting recomended earlier in this topic, and by o2. These are: Connect to: Internet Access Point: wap.o2.co.uk username: o2wap password: password primary/seconday DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP address: 193.113.200.195 or for standard dial up wap: Connects to: Wap Network Country code: +44 Dialling code: 7712 Phone Number: 927927 username: o2wap password: password domain: wap.o2.co.uk IP address: 193.113.200.195 Thanks for your help, I'll try some of the settings you've just suggested.
Guest apb075 Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 It wasn't the quickest of mms messages, but it got there in the end! You absolute beauty! thanks for your help!!!!! All I've got to do now is get the internet going.
Guest apb075 Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 If I've understood o2 right, it's impossible to have the phone setup to utilise both the multimedia msg. service AND the internet (on the o2 network). Could somebody confirm whether this is true. I don't mind how i connect to the internet dial up or gprs. Thanks again for all the help! Alistair.
Guest omar_g Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 The problem with not being able to connect to both the internet and MMS has been solved. They will now allow you to.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 Anybody besides Omar have GPRS working on non-SPV phones that don't work on the SPV? Anybody ever get GPRS internet access to work on SPV/O2?
Guest apb075 Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 I have a complete working O2 SPV!!!! Complete settings as follows: (Connection names are just the ones i used, they're not important as you probably know) Connection name: O2 Internet Connects to: Internet Access Point: wap.o2.co.uk Username: o2wap Password: password Primary DNS: 193.113.200.200 Secondary DNS: 193.113.200.201 IP address: Blank In the "data connections" screen use these settings to connect to "internet connection" Then in the MMS setup screen, use the above profile with the following: IP: 193.113.200.195 Port: 9201 Mmsc: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 Connection Name: O2 GPRS Connect to: Internet Access Point: wap.o2.co.uk username: o2wap password: password primary/seconday DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP address: 193.113.200.195 In the "data connections" screen use these settings to connect to "wap connection" Now send a MMS message and try your internet, and in principle it should work - don't give up first time though, I've just been testing mine and 2 out of 5 times the connection failed. Hope this helps. Alistair.
