Guest Zack Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Hi folks, Sorry if anyone thinks this is a repeated post, but after a search I can't find the answers to these questions, they are probably too basic to be asked. Here is the situation: I've got Win 98 and tried to do Pipin's update: www.dynamicdesigns2.co.uk/SPVUpdate.exe but to no avail. I've tried it about 10-15 times but each time it just gets to the error 113 page after doing 5%-16% of the second part (the updating bit, the destroying old stuff bit goes fine), I then take the battery out re-boot PC etc and try again. Phone is now stuck in canary screen, though I can access the IPSM delete screen thingy, after taking battery out, without too much trouble. Here are my questions: 1) Am I just being too impatient and should keep trying? 2) Should I hard reset between attempts? 3) Should I try Thruk's method of using the French and UK updates? 4) Is there any fundamental difference between Thruk's and Pipin's anyway (am thinking this may not work either), as Pipin's seems to be a mish mash of the two? 5) Should I just give up, hard reset my phone to its former erm "glory", lose my settings etc and wait for Orange to get their arses into gear and provide me with a proper update for win98? (well I did warn you they were basic!) :? Thanks for any help you are able to offer! Zack
Guest pete1312 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I'm on Win ME and had no problem using Thruk's instructions.
Guest Thurstan Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Try using the French and then UK update as per the workaround. It worked first time for me and is simpler than it sounds.
Guest abamara Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I'm on WinMe and using Thruk's instruction made it quite straightforward, considering I still haven't decerted yet. A little knowledge of french helped to boost my confidence (that I'm not frying anything up). Quite easy to follow really!
Guest Zack Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Do I need to do a hard reset before attempting Thruk's workaround or will it work from the Canary screen? Cheers Zack (P.S thinking of de-certing after is this as painful and time consuming?)
Guest Zack Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003           Tried to do Thruk's workaround which did not work either, this did the same thing as Pipin's (see top). Now I can't hard reset the bloody thing. After I've erased IPSM, ended and taken the battery out it won't turn back on unless I plug into mains, at which point it goes back to card found etc. If the SD card is in after card found it also says WINCE press action to download. If you don't press action it goes to bootloader / diag choice page, if you do it says download ce success then goes to bootloader / diag choice page etc. Is the phone dead?! Do I need to send it back to Orange? Will it be covered by waranty (don't have Orange cover)? Will it cost an arm and a leg to fix? PLEASE help the phone is completely useless at the moment and I really need it. Cheers Zack
Guest pipin Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 :) hi zack boot your phone in the normal startup mode "ie sunset/windows blue screen and let it settle a while about 20/30 mins then try hard reset again if you run into problem e.mail and i,ll send you a compressed flie with 98/me intsallation engine in it be warn even compressed it,s still 5.45mb ;)
Guest pete1312 Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Try using the French and then UK update as per the workaround. It worked first time for me and is simpler than it sounds. Shouldn't this read UK, then French? That's the way Thruk's original instructions worked for me.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Yep it should read UK then French well spotted :)
Guest Zack Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Sorry Pipin but I can't get to the normal start up mode "sunset/wndows blue" it is stuck in canary three colours, but can get to the diag box with delete IPSM etc. Where do I go from here? Will your instalation engine fix this? Will loading update from win XP powered comp fix it? :? :) Really hope you can help. Cheers, Zack
