Update failed - SPV now knackered. Can you help?

Downloaded the 1.35 Update from Orange web site.

I have run this from my laptop with the SPV connected by USB and connected to mains.

Came up saying updating from 1.16 to 1.35, got 50% way through deleting, then failed.

Told me to remove battery for 30 seconds then power up and try again.

However, as soon as I power it on, it now goes into the 3 Colour Canary PV screen.

I can press the action button on poweron and get into the Diagnostic menu.

From there I have followed an article on MoDaCo on Hard Resetting, so I have selected option 8 to Erase IPSM.

When you power it back on, its supposed to restore IPSM from ROM, but it doesn't, I can only get the 3 colour Canary screen or diagnostic mode.

A couple of ideas on why I have got to this stage:

1) I only had a guest activesync partnership, so once it deleted 50% of the files then asked for a RESET, it did not manage to connect to the laptop again. Dropping the SPV back in the cradle and rerunning the Update does not work. It eventually comes up with an "Error 101 - Connection Error" and the ActiveSync icon on my taskbar is greyed out.

2) In my infinite wisdom, I decided not to perform a backup before doing this. (nothing in particular I needed to save!!)

I was given this SPV with 3 months GPRS to be able to demo to potential customers. My 3 months GPRS has now expired and I am renegotiating a new subscription. Meantime, I have no valid Orange SIM and therefore Orange Customer Services cannot help.

I have spend a whole day looking for similar articles and solutions but have not found any. (Apologies if there are)

So, any assistance would be gratefully received.

I had this. Turn the phone off. And plug it in to the cradle. It'll turn on. Then run the Orange Update again. It may take a few times to get there, but it will work eventually - don't panick. In the meantime it will not be recognised by ActiveSync and Windows may say things like "New USB device found". Ignore all this and let it do it's stuff.

In fact you didn't have to Erase the IPSM.

Baz,

I have now tried this at least 20 times and I keep getting the same result.

When it does the "Checking the information on your SPV" step it comes up with "Error 101 - Connection error" then it tells me the update connot communicate with the device and that I should check its powered on, USB is okay etc etc

Any more suggestions?

Thanks for posting this Geezas ! Its really helped me out.

It does work eventually ...

After my phone crashed during the update and the i got the 3 colour screen...I tried the remove battery and start again routine about 3 times and left the PC for an hour each time ... nothing happened it was still stuck on three colours canary blah blah...

I even rebooted my PC and tried again ... still no joy, and the update screen was frozen each time.

I called Orange and they diagnosed my phone as faulty and wanted to swap it under warranty ....

I ran the diagnostics which all seemed to say PASSED ...

so I thought i would check the Modoco forum...

Well you were right ! I tried the routine again and it worked ! Prasie the Lord ! The upgrade completed. Must be something you said ???

I had that problem and coudln't get it to work no matter how many reboots i tried :/

In the end running the update again on a different PC forced the update to start again from scratch and all was well...
