C'mon guys, there's anti-piracy and there's obsession!

Copyright law exists to prevent others from profiting from someone's work, and to ensure the author a revenue stream. Someone sharing some short, low quality 8-bit wav files is not going to stop anyone from buying the movie/song/whatever, and they aren't profiting from it.

Someone sharing some ringtones should not be an issue, and it should not require censorship.

I think you'll find Mono was object to the Name/site quoted not the fact of sharing ringtones.

I think you will find the edit was due to the referance now in ***** as it is a link to a pirate network.

If this site wants to be a voice that Orange and MS might listen to, we have to keep this site clean.

All the big boys do look at this site and if we allow referances to pirate sites etc we would become a joke and not taken seriously.

p2p networks are not pirate networks! Arghh...this is something that really annoys me! You can get pirate data over HTTP, FTP, AIM, MSN, fax machines, telephone lines, VHS recorders. No one refers to them as "pirate".

p2p is the future for media distribution. Just because the entertainment industry doesn't like it eating into their profits doesn't mean that laws should be created to keep them happy. When the printing press was invented, the scribes and the church had laws passed to control & limit it as well. The term "copyright" actually refers the license you had to get to use a printing press. The evolution of modern media is no different it seems.

So, some people will lose their jobs. Welcome to progress. People in the railroad industry lost their jobs due to the motor car and airplane. Ditto shipping, horse and carts and ye olde wheelbarrows. Each evolutionary step renders the old one redundant.

Get over it. Don't allow yourself to become brainwashed into thinking it's "bad" and "immoral" just to keep some guys in suits in profit. p2p is the kick up the ass that the music industry needs right now. It will cut out the blatant commercialism in popular music, as well as securing the artists rights to a) actually own their music and :) actually see some of the money from it.

I'm fully aware of what p2p is and its capabilities. I also fully agree its the way forward and in the future it will be ~the~ distrobution method of choice for music purchase.

However in the here and now, as in today, p2p clients such as this have a reputation as being the best method of aquiring pirated material, and until the RIAA has a banner ad on its website promoting p2p networks we will keep the stance that they are not allowed here due to their direct link to piracy.

When it comes down to it, is it really too much to ask that you refrain from mentioning ~one~ word? If you really have to suggest it there's a perfectly good PM system...

Cos they're the RIAA's website ;p

Pranks aside, my opinion still holds :)
