Do us old SPV owners get a free SPVx?

Just a quick one. Many years ago I had one of the Nokia Banana phones on an Orange contract. One day it got broken and when my replacement arrived (via Orange care) it was a new version of the phone as Orange had stopped doing my version. Is Orange going to sell the SPVx along side the SPV, or will anyone with an old SPV automatically get a new SPVx if they make a claim on Orange care in the future :? ?

They will be selling the SPV alongside the SPVx I believe!

That would not be very logical, unless they overproduced the SPV, in which case thye should not be making an SPVx. They would make more money by pushing the SPV aside.

They are marketing the SPV as business phone, and the SPVx as a consumer phone (if I remember the press release correctly!)

so what O are saying is that business users don't need a nice TFT screen and don't need a better navigation method or better buttons for sending emails, msn messenger and sms messages.

Well O have been on the wacky Backy... Wake Up O... Business users send more emails , more sms messages have more diaries more contacts.

What they really mean is :

Ok, so we have improved the phone over the last few months from all the feedback from current SPV users. However we have over 40,000 handsets out in circulation. If we say we have a new version of the SPV with all bugs ironed out, a new screen, better navigation and improved keys they will all want one and we will not make such hugh profits this year. Lets pretend the new phone is aimed at a different market, and try to flatter current SPV users by saying they are business people and don't need this fixed phone, the one they have is the dogs bollox for up and coming business users.

If you want to play games and look at cookery websites then you need a SPV (what shall we call it, yeah x)...

Dont you think that the ONLY reason the SPVx is going to be markedted as a multimedia phone rather than the SPV which is a "Business" phone is to differentiate between the two and so AVOID complaints that we have been sold an inferior product that orange KNEW they would be updating very shortly?

Cynical I may be, BUT I cannot for the life of me see that a "NEW" phone could have been thought of, designed and produced, shipped and distributed in the few months since the first SPV was released.

Orange release a bug ridden SPV so as to claim pole postion in the market. They knew a new phone would be on the shelves soon and I have no doubt at all that you will not be getting an exchange for the SPVx unless you have a serious fault and raise merry hell.

Well, thats all of us then!!!

Perhaps the SPVx will not be app locked if it is a consumer phone...

Smiffy, I think you're spot on there. I reckon the SPV was a stopgap for Orange who wanted to grab marketshare before any other Smartphones released, and stability of product was not a primary factor. Maybe because they don't have a 3G solution coming anytime soon?

Don't get me wrong - I'm chuffed to bits with my SPV, I honestly don't think anything comes close to it in terms of bang for your buck (I got mine for £25 on a £30 p.m contract), so much so that I still have 3 months left on my current O2 contract!

do you think if i go to orange and tell them that i'm not a business user so they must have sold me the wrong phone, they might replace it with an spv x?

maybe you wont be able to de-cert the spv x... if thats the case ill keep my humble spv

we should all convert our phones into spv r's because r is a much better letter than x and have the difference between an spv and an spv r that the spv r is de-certed, unlocked, clocked(i wish) and spray painted metallic red

This is what I was told today...

The new SPV is not called the SPVx... Supposedly it was an error in the press release from Orange. X was meant to be replaced...

I was also told that it has not yet been decieded whether or not it will be released in the uk...

And has anyone else seen the keyboard (made by jabra) for the SPV?

Black roll out mat style keyboard...

perhaps we should do a poll to see how many forum visitors are "business users" !!

Hey, I'm two :)

Although the main reason for registering as a business and not personal is the free care...

Well I was in the Orange shop in Northampton earlier and the manager seemed pretty sure that the SPVx would be out june/july time and that it would be replacing the SPV, probably be here 2004 then

This might be the case. Last year I made a claim on my T68(Voda) which was 7 months into the contract. It was replaced with a T68i.

If a claim were to be made in the second half of your contract I would believe that you'll get an SPVx(or what ever its called) as a replacement cos by that time they might have stopped producing older models (SPV).

But then again its only an assumption.

Maybe if people on various web-sites have a strong enough interest and opinion on this matter then Orange's decision may be swayed by what they have read on this and other sites?

So keeo shouting people!

The information i received was not from an Orange shop or a CS op.

I was also told that the car kit should be avail in about 2/3 weeks. Having said that I've been hearing that for quite a while now.

I wouldn't hold your breath over the car kit :)

Might get the keyboards some time soon tho!

You know... with one of those CigarLighter/USB Charge&Sync combos, + a car radio that takes un-amp'd audio Aux sources, you can come pretty close... by sacrificing a headset.

The best feature missing would be auto-muting/switching the audio on the radio, but if the pinout is the same as the XDA's there is a signal you can use to connect to the Mute Input of the radio. But then you have to alter the USB C&S cable.

The keyboard they showed me was very cool, I'm still not convinced that the spv is right for corporates.

The P800 seems to be quite good and its bluetooth.

I'm still looking forward to a keyboard... :)
